Thats awesome. I wish I could do that, I'm sure our HD has lots of goodies in their trash. I have never heard of anyone doing that around here though...I'd hate to be the first person to try it and end up on the news LOL ;-)
they get 2-3 truckloads of plants everyday..they make room for them by throwing away perfectly good plants. so if say they get wave petunias today and then they get them again tommorow they throw the former away. what a waste of water electricity and gas. My whole yard has been landscaped with their "trash"![]()

Lucky you. I think our HD compacts all of their trash. I have thought about trying to rescue plants before, so I checked, lol.
We've seen workers trying to give away carts of lumber by the contractor entrance several times- it was leftovers or something that wasn't cut correctly.

I have done this too. It was cool when DH worked for Home Depot. Reminds me to have a drive around back....

I should do that.
That is a great idea - and one that would never have occurred to me.
Do you know if Lowe's does this too? I have a Lowe's right down the street, but HD is quite a haul.....
DH and I were talking about this trying to figure out how reasonable this really is. How would you go about doing this? Just drive around back after closing? Do they have cameras on their dumpsters? I mean...like a PP said...I don't want to be on the 11 news...but at worst it is free potting soil at best it is landscaping that we desperately need especially when we put the house back up for sale in the fall/spring...thoughts from those who have done it???

Some areas actually allow it. Others consider it trespassing. I don't know the laws on my area, but I will admit to peeking in dumpsters every now and then. None of the stores in my area, even the big ones like Old Navy, Office Max, etc have cameras on their dumpsters.
I've seen people talk about this before and most say if they get caught and whomever finds them has a problem with it, they just claim to be looking for moving boxes. It sounds reasonable and leads to no difficulties.
There are people who making a living off of dumpster diving, it's amazing what gets thrown away!
