Thumbs Up Ask and you shall recieve at Home Depot

Just thought I'd share some positive experiences I've had a Home Depot over the last month as I've been getting ready for me and my wife's new addition to the family and been remodeling our home.
We started remodeling the bathroom and bedroom so I started with a new bathroom exhaust fan since ours died out months ago. I went to Ace because they had a 50% off sale off 1 item but after going to about 3 different Ace stores to find a match to the size fan we used to have they informed me the 50% off offer didn't apply to electrical items but they would give us 10% off instead. I decided to go to Home Depot because I wanted to make sure we got the best deal (I hear baby's are expensive)
The helpful employee at Home Depot took a look at our fan size and helped me search out a replacement but of course the only one they had that would fit was overkill and expensive at $98. Our bathroom is tiny so a $30 fan would due just fine but didn't fit (too small) so the employee without us even asking said he would give us half off the price just to get our business. That's customer service!
The second thing we did was tile flooring in the bathroom and we went to one of those classes where they show you how to tile. The employee was friendly and answered all my questions without making me feel like a moron. I even got to spread the thinset and grout to get an idea of how it goes together. I ended up getting a great deal on some clearance tile my wife liked (74 cents a sq ft) and I bought the tile hardy backer sheets, and misc. stuff to complete the project. I had this coupon from Lowe's I found in the inserts which said you could get $25 off any purchase of $300 or more at Lowes so I asked if I could use the coupon at Home Depot and they accepted it NO PROBLEM and gladly took $25 off my bill. I was impressed because Lowe's is a little more $$$ in my area I've found at least on tile.
Once I finished the tile my wife decided she wanted this vanity that was a dark colored cherry look. They have the same vanity in a regular wood color for $25 less. I thought about it and I didn't want to spend more for a color so I asked the customer service if I could get it for the same price as the other less expensive vanity and she said sure no problem. I was floored again expecting them to fight me on it.
I also had several returns and they took them back without issue everytime.
I also noticed on every visit they ask me if I need help which is nice since about 2-3 years ago I hated the place because I couldn't find something or needed help and nobody was around ever.
So if you haven't checked out Home Depot in awhile give them another shot. They have got me as a customer again for sure. Don't be afraid to ask for a discount there either.

I'm glad you had such a great experience.

I have been using Lowe's coupons at Home Depot for the last 6 months. They advertise that they accept competitors coupons.

We are also doing a couple remodel projects before baby #3 arrives..

Another thing we are doing is buying Home Depot gift cards at Kroger or Giant Eagle so that we earn the gas discounts too.

I also have very good experience with Home Depot just by asking. DH and I were determined to buy the Cub Cadet zero turn riding mower. Tag was 2999. At the store I saw some signs for discount up to $300 for select items. Unfortunately, it did not cover the riding mowers but other tools. I asked if they will take the 10% lowes discount coupon and I was pleasantly surprise that the SM just instructed cashier to give instant discount of $300 so that took a lot off our sales tax . That was very good service and on top of that we paid with Discover card which has an offer till 5/31 of double cash back for purchases at home improvement stores. It doesn't hurt to ask especially if you're negotiating for high ticket items. I noticed stores are very flexible and they'd rather get your business than refuse to give a discount.

I "had" always had poor luck at Home Depot - had to travel about 25 minutes to get to it, sales staff that were less knowlegable than I was, couldn't find someone to help load the truck etc. I dreaded going there, but at times, it was a must. I would gladly pay more money to go to the local mom and pop hardware for most things - it was that bad

Fast Forward - they move into my town about 5 years ago - better customer service - still a bit lax on the knowledge department, but I know when to go and who to see.

I love being greeted by name - I am in Home Depot prolly 3 times a week on average, sometimes 3 times a day it seems. It does pay to wear a jacket with the right name one it!

I was there yesterday getting some plexi glass to line the bird cage (sick of cleaning up seeds off the floor) - they had one piece the size I needed so that I could get all 4 pieces out of one with less waste. It was beat up on the edges from chips etc. It was 31.00 originally and I asked the lady at the front if there was any discount available - she said yes - you can have it for 20.00 - nice huh?

When we bought our house, we went and bought the lawn mower from lowes(No coupons) and washer and dryer from home depot(no coupons). After a month we bought the lawn mower, we got 10% coupon from Home depot and also lowes. So went to lowes asked for price adjusting, they said they cannot do on already bought items. All I did is buy the same new lawn mower with the 10% off coupon, and go out and come back to lowes with old recipt and return it. Since it was brand new still in the box, they took it back. I was worried abt the same with washer and dryer at home depot, but when I asked the manager at HD, he happily credited money back to my credit card. I told him, my experience at Lowes. He gave me a strategy as follows.

IF I (customer) a new home buyer, in a span of next 10 years, every week or month I visit HD to buy things and at the end it will be around 50k in expenses(approx). So for jsut 400$ they dont want to loose a customer.

Thats it

I always shop at HD compared to Lowes and they know how to please a customer.

Go HD...

Hi,

You can get the Lowe's 10% off coupon at your local post office. It is in the change of address or movers kit. I'm in NY. Not sure if its available in your neighborhood. :smile77:
