I heard on the news yesterday that they are going to layoff white collar employees instead of the sales associates and such.

If they do file, use up any gift cds cuz they may not have to honor them. That just happened to another major chain (I think it was Sharper Image). All depends on the reorganization agreement approved by the court.

I thought it'd have been earlier than this.
I remember when they first moved in here. They hired actual contractors with experience and paid them actual wages. It was great. everyone loved HD. Then they "downsized" all the experienced workers out and hired all part time minimum wagers to replace them. Now you're lucky if that kid is aware that bolts actually exist. Forget him trying to help you in any way, he's too busy.
HD was mobbed regularly before, now it's empty and everyone is sort of "oh no, I have to go THERE again."
I have CDO. It's like OCD, but in alphabetical order, as it should be.

ITA their customer service is a huge joke- I once had to run down an employee while 9 months prego to get help- carrying a nearly 3 y.o. as well- he was pretending like he couldn't hear me- although I was yelling at him (I did start out w/ a normal tone- not that I just start yelling).

Man ,I hate to hear this being an Atlanta native and this being a company that started here.
Our local store is really nice . I 've found the employees there to be very helpful and they knew their stuff about what we needed. ( We had a major flooding issue with our hot water heater and have recently had to replace carpeting, tile, dry wall, and electrical stuff ) So we have been there alot in recent weeks.

I don't think they are filing for bankruptcy.
    From their website:
The Home Depot(R), the world's largest home improvement retailer, today reported fiscal 2008 second quarter consolidated net earnings of $1.2 billion, or $0.71 per diluted share, compared with $1.6 billion, or $0.81 per diluted
The Home Depot(R), the world's largest home improvement retailer, today announced that its board of directors declared a second quarter cash dividend of 22.5 cents per share. The dividend is payable on September 18 to shareholders

They would not be paying a dividend to stock holders if they were declaring bankruptcy.
Must be some kind of rumor.
