On a related note... Linens n' Things just filed Chapter 11 and is closing 9 stores in Michigan !

My dd works at HD and she says it's getting rough. She is a part timer cause she is in college and they have cut her hours because another store had to lay off lots of people and those with seniority got transefered to hers. With the amount of abusive customers she gets at HD I wish she would just get another job altogether.

Do they do closeout sales? or they just close the stores and move inventory away?

our store closed today but will reopen Sat. and will stay open until they sell out what's on the shelves...said that could be up to seven weeks...

I'm thinking this would be a good time to restock the tool box at least!

Not knowing any of the other stores, the one on the list I have seen (East Brunswick, NJ) is a former "regular" hardware (Rickels, I believe), so it is a smaller store than their usual size.
This may have led to less people shopping there - they may have wanted to go to a bigger store for more selection (which shouldn't be a problem - there's probably another one not far away as it seems to be with most stores in NJ).

Additionally, as someone else posted, other stores (like the VT one close to NH) have reasons to explain why they didn't do well.

Finally, to point out - them closing 15 stores out of what, hundreds?, thousands? in the country isn't unusual - most companies do it at some point - they just find that some spots aren't as good as they thought. It's not quite like the chains going bankrupt and closing 1/3, 1/2 or more of their stores.

The one in Findlay is doing 10-30% off the entire store today.

My sister said they closed her store that first day...the liquidators went in to inventory...and it reopened for business today and the shelves were bare when she went in about 10 minutes after opening...

one in east brunswick is currently at at least 20% everything, some items as high as 60%. 48pack of rayovak batteries(near checkout) $12!! I plan on going back for some 5 gallon buckets now only a little more than $3 each
