HEB FAQ and Coupon Policy

H-E-B Coupon Policy

At H-E-B, we know how important it is for you to maximize every dollar you spend with us. Coupons are a big part of that, so below we have outlined our guidelines for your convenience.


H-E-B accepts the following types of coupons:

• Manufacturer issued coupons obtained from printed publications (newspaper, FSI, magazines, etc)
• H-E-B Issued coupons
  • Manufacturer-sponsored coupons (Type M coupon; has an 'M' in bottom left corner)
  • Store-sponsored coupons (Type S Coupon; has an 'S' in the bottom left corner)
  • Big Savings coupons (Type B coupons; has a 'B' in the bottom left corner)
  • The above mentioned H-E-B issued coupons are typically
    • Available at store level and typically yellow in color
    • Generated by a coupon printer at the register and provided with customer receipt
    • Distributed via direct mail to customer households or other printed publications

• Printable coupons with a bar code (i.e. Online or Internet coupons)

Please consider the following guidelines and limitations:

• Coupons can only be redeemed for items, brands, and sizes as specified by the requirements of the coupon.
• Only one manufacturer coupon per item is permitted.
  • Combining a manufacturer issued coupon with an H-E-B issued manufacturer coupon (Type M) on the same item is not permitted
  • H-E-B will combine store sponsored yellow coupons with manufacturer coupons for the same product
    • One (1) manufacturer issued coupon and one (1) H-E-B issued Store-sponsored (Type S)
    • One (1) manufacturer issued coupon and one (1) H-E-B issued Big Savings coupon (Type B)
  • H-E-B does not double or triple coupons.
  • H-E-B cannot give cash back if the face value of a coupon is greater than the purchase value of the item.
  • Coupons must be presented to the cashier at time of purchase.
  • Coupons cannot be redeemed for cash.
  • The following coupons cannot be accepted:
    • Expired coupons
    • Competitor coupons
    • Coupons without a barcode
  • H-E-B accepts valid online and other printable coupons as follows:
    • Online and other Printable coupons should be legible and have a bar code.
    • Buy-one-get-one-free coupons (BOGOs) are accepted. (i.e. Buy X, Get X Free)
    • "Free product" printable coupons are not accepted (i.e. Get X Free)
    • Printable Coupons will not be accepted if they appear copied or are altered in any way. They should be printed directly from the website or email in which they were offered.
    • Printable Coupons have unique serial numbers and follow an industry standard format; they are non-transferable, and should not be copied, scanned, sold, traded, or otherwise distributed.
  • H-E-B reserves the right to refuse any coupon or limit quantities

I get a sheet of coupons for pet treats, etc. in the mail for each of my dog's birthdays. Also I got a mailer for two bags of free dog treats at Christmas time.

Can I Buy More than One Meal Deal at a Time?

Yes, you can do the meal deal as many times as you want, heck they always encourage me to buy a couple at a time. Don't worry about doing multiple transactions, as long as you have the right numbers of items with each of your deals and the appropriate number of coupons - you will be fine.

What are Moo-la-la H-E-B Dairy Dollars?

To receive a $10 H-E-B gift card, collect four (4) H-E-B Dairy Dollar points. One (1) point is received each time a Qualifying Purchase is made at a participating H-E-B store from 5/14/07 to 8/12/07. On Friday, I printed an internet coupon for a FREE Ideal sweetener product. It looked suspicious so I called the company. The lady I talked to said the coupon is totally legitimate. I guess I won't bother trying to use it at H-E-B?

The other day, I tried to use a mfg. coupon for a free carton of Tropicana O.J. that was sent to me by the manufacturer. It would not scan so the cashier would not take it. She said something about "internet coupon." I told her the coupon was sent to me by the manufacturer. It's not from the internet. Didn't matter since it wouldn't scan.

Often when I shop at HEB using coupons, at the end of the transaction, they have to call a manager over to approve the transaction. What exactly sets this off? Every time this has happened, all of my coupons have scanned just fine; no coupons beeped, so no overrides were necessary on individual coupons.

When you reach a certain dollar amount off in coupons it always requires a manager override. I suppose that is to prevent fraud by the customer and the cashier?

A coupon can be entered in manually. I would have asked for a manager she probably didnt know how to do it and didnt want to admit it.

This happens to me often. So often that Ive totally stopped shopping here. Its so discouraging to argue with the same Manager every week and not getting nowhere.Ive finally just took my business to Walmart instead.

I was reading about HEB's freshness guarantee on another site. I never heard of it before but people are able to get a lot of groceries for free!!! Has anyone else tried this before???

We guarantee the freshness of all products in our store. If you find a product with a sell date earlier than today, we will gladly exchange it for a free FRESH replacement item (not redeemable for cash). Limit one free item on any like UPC. items normally sold by the pound you will receive one pound free
