HI Tell me about your HEB

I'd love to hear about other HEB's. The good and bad.

The HEB I shop at in New Braunfels has gotten SO BAD.
They are out of milk on an almost regular basis. (one of the reasons why I have stopped buying milk there)
They never get new products in.
Their produce (more so lately) has been dismal at best.

I have also recently encountered some very un-friendly employees.
One man yesterday I over heard telling a woman that it takes them at least 6 months to get a new product in the store. (!?!?)

And when I asked the same employee where the go-gurts were (I had just bought some a week & 1/2 before) He told me they are no longer "staging" them. Meaning they just up and decided to stop carrying them. Not even the HEB brand. Why? Who knows why. Almost every time I went to buy them (my kids love them frozen) they were always almost gone. So now I guess I have to give Albertson's my business.

A mom in my mom's group was saying that our New Braunfels HEB is one of the worst in the state. That ours is always the last to get shipments, espically of produce.

Now I LOVE Central Market in San Antonio. Everyone in there is always super friendly. Their produce is always excellent quality. They are higher in price on most items than other HEB's.

Who is fortunate to have an HEB Plus! in their town? There has been talks that NB will get one, lord knows when tho. We could really use it. During the summer the pop. of our town about triples and all the grocery stores are over crowded and out of lots of things.

Hi! I live in Leander (NW of Austin) and we have an HEB Plus! that opened a year and a half ago. I love the store, especially the Cooking Connection. However, since joining HCW, I have a new perspective on HEB. I always was loyal to HEB and only HEB, because it was so much less expensive than anywhere else, but with couponing, it's not. They don't double/triple like Randall's does. I find much better deals at Randall's and Target with coupons, but since I don't have a huge stockpile going yet, I'm still doing the bulk of my grocery shopping at HEB. Still love the store, it's just that HCW has opened my eyes.

I went to your store a few weeks ago on my way to San Antonio. Hope you get a Plus! soon -- they're great.

I have tried to stay loyal to HEB too. I am a big believer in supporting local businesses and keeping our money at the very least in our state. I like that HEB is a Texas born and based company. But they are making it harder and harder for me to stay loyal to them. I hate their whole in-store coupon thing. You can't use mfg coupons with their sales.
But I REFUSE to shop at Walmart. I despise that store.

I wish we had a Randall's close to us. I went to one in Austin once and it was VERY nice. I never see them in San Antonio area. But none of the stores in our area double/triple coupons. The only other stores we have in NB is Albertsons & Handy Andy. Our HA's are a little skeevey looking. and neither double coupons ever.

I love the HEB Plus stores. They are so wonderful with all the fresh, in store made products, baby section, toy department, wine selection, etc. I do not have one by me. My HEB is so small it feels like I'm shopping in a closet. Most of the HEB Plus stores around here seem to be in the out lying/suburban areas.

The HEB's around here decided to stop carrying Elgin sausage so I thought all stores in the Houston area did as well until a few weeks ago we found some at the HEB Plus in Santa Fe.

Mom2, email me! I live in Schertz and I also shop in NB!

Anyway, I like my HEB in Schertz, I can always find what I need. Cashiers are friendly and the store is generally stocked well. The store is ALWAYS clean.

I occasionally go into stores near work in San Antonio, and I HATE them!!! They are never stocked, employees rude and have NO idea what's going on with store promos and life in general. They also have a much smaller selection of products-even though the stores are regular, full sized stores (not HEB pantrys).

As for the HEB Plus that is halfway near my work (on Zarzamora), I don't like it either. I realize that I am a minority going into that store (white girl here), but they just cater to the Hispanic population with their products, and don't carry some of the regular items I look for. Signs in Spanish really upset me when I'm trying to find stuff, not to mention the employees that only speak Spanish. I have stopped going over there.

HEB in Brenham is the one I shop at. It's generally clean & well stocked and the employees are friendly. But it's always SO crowded and there is never enough parking. There isn't enough competition in Brenham. We need a Kroger!!!

I LOVE the HEB in Schertz too! Sometimes If I am lucky I can plan my grocery shopping when we are in the area.
The Schertz one is almost as good as Central Market. They carry alot of the same stuff.
The NB one doesn't have a great selection of stuff. I know if I can't find it in NB, the Schertz store will most likely have it.
I love the fresh sushi bar there too! SO YUMMY!!!

We are supposed to be getting an HEB+ in NB, I have heard that they are gonna put it on the loop, out by the Scooter Store and that new Walgreens.

I also shop at the NB HEB - it is always so crowded which drives me crazy! I have heard from several sources that we are getting a Central Market on the loop by the Scooter Store. I personally find that hard to believe - but that is what I heard. It would be great if it is true! I know they were also going to put an HEB on 35 across from the new Target and I originally heard that was going to be an HEB Plus. I guess we have to wait and see!

Oh I would LOVE a Central Market so close! sadly, I don't think there is a "market" for a Central Market type store in NB. I have found that the majority of the people in NB are not very "food savvy" Every time I buy bok choy from HEB the cashiers never know what it is. Savoy cabbage too. Seriously. They carry it, they should know what it is.
When we first moved to NB I asked the ladies at the deli counter where the procuttio was. They looked at me like I was from another planet. had no idea what I was talking about.

I too hate that our HEB is always so busy. Esp. during the summer, when the population of the town triples. It's annoying when they are out of staples too. Like milk and bread. I have started buying those at Costco tho. They are never out of stock and they are cheaper on the organic milk too. Just wish it wasn't so darn far away!

Default Re: Tell me about your HEB

we have the first HEB plus store here in Corpus. The store is great. Everything is just as it should be. The only problem is the deli. The workers are so slow, that it takes close to ten minutes to have meat and cheese cut. I have noticed that lately less and less people even go to the deli. It is a shame, because the deli works so efficiently at the regular HEB's. I just wish we had some competition here in town. Ouor prices are much higher than anywhere elsi in the state
