I LOVE stories like this, have a couple of my own. You are so right, there are sweet & honest angels out there. God provides ALL the time! Maybe not what you want, but always what you NEED!

Wow, just now had a chance to come read this and it does make you feel good that there are honest and giving people in the world still. We too often concentrate on the rotten people and the bad things happening around us. So wonderful that you had angels looking out for you. I am glad that you will have the opportunity to pay it forward.

I also had something like this happen once but not in as large of a scale. It was many years ago, when I had been separated from my now ex husband for a little while and I was struggling really badly. I had to drive out to another town about a half an hour away to get my kids from him and stopped to get gas. I don't usually carry much cash and at the time my credit was ruined by the bankruptcy we had filed so I had no credit cards, only a debit card for my bank. So I went to use it to pay for my gas and it wouldn't work. I was 100% positive there was money in my account but for some reason it would not work at the pump. Went inside and the cashier couldn't get it to work either. I was close to tears because I really needed gas and it was too late to go to the bank. A very nice man gave me $20 to put some gas in my car (which at the time went a lot further than it goes right now). I tried to get his information so I could send him the $ but he wouldn't hear of it. Thank God for him that night because I could have been stranded on the side of the road in the dark if he hadn't helped me.

Awww, such great stories. To me the more amazing person is the one who turned in your cash. I dropped my purselet in the parking lot of the grocery store and when I got it back my $60 in cash was gone. That was a huge amount of money to me at that point in my life. *sigh*

This doesn't involve coupons or money but I still remember and appreciate this man's help. Back when I was 20, on bitter cold January night I was driving home on the highway when my left front tire blew. I managed to safely get over to the break down lane and park. But I could only get so far over because of the snowbank. Now I had to change a tire in the freezing cold with traffic speeding by me, rocking my car. So I'm standing at the back of my big old Caprice Classic looking at the huge tire way in the back of the trunk, shivering, crying, and alternating wishing someone would stop to help and dreading someone stopping to "help" me, when a car pulls up behind me and stops. (This was before cell phones [not that I have one now, lol] so I couldn't call AAA or the police.) I'm scared out of my wits and feeling so vulnerable stranded there. Although, I did have my hand on the tire iron.

Well it was a nice guy that stopped to help me, John from CT, that's all I know. He changed my tire for me. He even offered to let me keep warm in his car while he did it but I figured the least I could do was stand there and freeze along side him, plus still keeping in mind the personal safety issue. I thanked him profusely and he was all modest. We got in our cars and went on our way. I still wish good things for John in CT.

Wow Heidi...

I'm always amazed by the kindness of strangers during situations like this. I hope she is as blessed as she made you feel that day.

I had an "angel" help me when I was very pregnant and fighting very badly w. DH. Actually I had a team of angels and without them I doubt that I and my baby would have lived through it (I was so upset I was not eating or sleeping and I remember driving 90+mph hoping I would crash my car). My brother did a lot of hand holding during that time, lots of phone calls and visits to his house. A lady I met on an internet support group coached me via telephone. There were times when I called every day. This was the most stunning because I didn't really know her, just that she had been in my shoes before. Through e-mail and phone calls she helped me stay sane and save my marriage without giving in. An out-of-state friend also helped me. She offered to take me into her home for as long as I needed. Since I could not eat or sleep at home, I took her up on that offer. She prepared her guest bedroom complete w. fluffy robe, cozy slippers, a box of treats and magazines. She cooked for me and listened me to. This gave me a week to calm down enough to sleep and eat a little. My boss was also an angel at this time. When I told him I needed to go away for a little while he insisted on paying me anyway. It took a team to get me through. I know the saying "it takes a village to raise a child," Well it took a village to get me through this rough patch. I could not have done it alone, or even with the help of just one person.

One of the stories reminds me of my brother. He is one of those "angels." There was a situation where an elderly couple was on the side of the highway with their car. He pulled over, figured out what was wrong, then drove to a store to buy the part they needed, came back and fixed their car. He used his own money to buy the part and refused to take any money from the couple. That is just one of his stories, which also include him fixing a stranger's broken wheelchair and chasing, tackling and restraining a thief who had robbed a store at the mall. As he is over 6 feet tall, has a shaved head and a big giant beard, you would never know he is really an angel in disguise.
