I thought it has been this way for some time. It does make it hard to stockpile if you do not live close, but on the other hand, it prevents shelf clearing during coupon events. I've become used to this policy, but I live near about 6-7 stores.
HT takes 3 like coupons per day per a CS employee and their public coupon policy.
A HT cashier told me it was 3 like coupons per visit, since the limit per day was 20.
That is the same as Lowes Foods, or maybe even less, if Lowes takes 4 like coupons. It has been so long since I shopped at Lowes, I can not remember.
All the coupon rules that change, seem to become more restricted.
I just can afford to drive to my HT multiple times to use 6 or 7 like coupons. Is stockpiling on the way out of favor, in general, at stores like HT and LF?

They will double 20 coupons a day (with a limit of 3 like coupons per item being doubled)
They will take more than twenty- but only 20 will double.
It's part of a trend in couponing. Not that the HT 3 like coupon limit is new, but the overall trends. There are more people using coupons and they number of Sunday newspapers is staying the same, so more demand for less coupons. And more people after like items, in the stores, and the limits help control it.
HT has had a pretty stable coupon policy with few changes since I started nearly 4 years ago. Same with LF.
The places where you are seeing the most significant changes are the stores that had very lenient coupon policies. With the onset of internet information sharing, it was only a matter of time before limits became necessary.
With or without the show, more people are couponing, it's easier to find deals and acquire coupons.
But unless you want to stockpile like those people, it really shouldn't keep one from getting enough to take care of their family.
I get 3 papers per week. Therefore, I rarely get more than 3 like items when there is a deal. It's plenty to keep my pantry full and my budget minimal. So if it means more people can take part in this money-saving game, then I'm happy for them. Sure, the shelves may clear more quickly, and I might miss out, but if so, then I just move on to the next deal.
The folks who want to build convenience stores in their basements may find it much harder, but really, it probably should be, don't you think?
I think the only major changes to the coupon policy that has really affected my buying habits is not doubling the coupons that state DO NOT DOUBLE even when they scan through fine and would normally double. that has made me have a bit of a game change in what I get at what store. Also I do worry sometimes when I do shop, if I end up with a handful of coupons, if they will try to limit what I get and how many I use. because now the coupon policy states that the managers have the right to limit us, so if we have a manager on a coupon warpath, then watch out!
I have found that harris teeter offers the best customer service out of all the stores I shop at, and for that I am perfectly willing to adhere to the coupon policy. I am used to the 3 like coupons per day, it has been this way for some time now, although I remember the days when you could use 3 for one flavor and 3 for another flavor of the same product. but anyways, I think while HT has a more detailed coupon policy, once you get used to how it works it is not hard to work with
If I can go shopping without being looked at like I am robbing the store or committing a crime when I hand over my coupons, then that makes it all worth it. I don't need to feel like I am doing something wrong when clearly I am not.
ok rant over.
I still do not understand why HT does not scan and double coupons, that state "do not double." If their policy is to double all coupons up to 99 cents, why not double them all?
The manufacturer did not put "do not double" on the coupon for HT's benefit.
HT pays the "double" part of the discount out of their pocket, whether the coupon says do not double, or not.
Yesterday I had 5 like coupons and the clerk at the self checkout said the limit was 3 per visit. I asked if I could just come back in the store and buy the othet to items. They said ok. I then went to CS to ask and they said 3 like per day.
Limits are up to the stores. We can all adjust our spending habits to adapt. I've got two Bi-Lo closer to me than the HT, so.........I'll still go to HT for SD's or triples, or specific sales.
The actual corporate policy states that coupons with "Do Not Double" on them "should not double" The operative word is SHOULD. Corporate gives store management the option to let coupons double if they do so when scanned. So, there are a few stores that will pull them and enter them manually, while the greater bulk of HT stores just scan them, if they double they let them double.
Naturally, I choose to shop at those HT stores that scan all coupons and let them double if they willAnd the bottom line of those who do not and pull them to manually enter no doubt show a difference in sales volume

I don't think that your vic card knows WHAT coupons you have used just that you have used and doubled 20 or so coupons. you could use 3 like coupons go to your car and come back in and do it all over again. Only 20 double PER day. But say you have 5 $1 off coupons you SHOULD be able to use all 5 in one transaction as along as super doubles is not going on.
