Default Shortened Ads - what do you think?

It was mentioned in the rumor thread that HT will start putting out shortened ads. I personally think that shortened ads are a mistake by Harris Teeter, as folks make their grocery lists and plans for the week based on what's advertised. I know lots of busy families that don't have time to wander in a grocery store, looking for sale items (ie, the golden egg). This also might mean you find something, don't have the Qs on you and have to come back to 'catch the deal'.

I am going to assume that is only for the printed ads and not the emailed ads. Assuming that is the case, I think it will be fine.

I've never worked from the ad. It does not come in my paper, and it is not mailed to me. By the time I go to the store that week, the paper ad is really not needed for me.

I receive my weekly flyer/ad via email. It works wonderfully, and I think everyone will adjust reasonably quickly. It's easier to make your list by just clicking on items, adding your own notes, etc.

Between the emailed ad (assuming that is still rather comprehensive) and the EL, I think it will be just fine.

I took this as they aren't going to be making a long ad at all. I don't get the ad either, as my closest HT is over 90 miles away.

Does the EL really work for you? There are multiple HTs in the Nashville area, but only two stores have an EL listed. I've seen things on the EL that were NOT that price in the Brentwood store (one of 2 in Nashville that have an EL option) and the store wouldn't honor the EL. (I only shop on the weekends, and an once in a lifetime friday).

Ive been receiving the one page ads in my local Wednesday paper for quite a while. It stinks! The still offer the whole ad in store.

EL works great for me though bec the store I shop at the majority of the time is an EL store. EL and store prices are supposed to be the same. On several occassions now, an item rang up higher and they adjusted after I showed them the EL price on my phone.

I just can't see how HT can proceed without advertising most of their sales in any way. I interpret their intent as cutting costs by moving toward paperless (like every other business is trying to do). I can't imagine it costs them too much to format their list of sales into reader-friendly and email them out to VIC customers and post them on their websites. At least I hope not.

My particular store is not on EL, but one close by is and the prices are almost always identical. It is not perfect, but it is helpful.

I am quite fortunate that I go right past HT twice a day as I take my son to and from school. That way, there are no extra gas costs involved. I calculated that if I make a special trip, it is $2.50 in gas round trip -- so the weekend eVics have to be worth more than that to make me even consider it.

Here's hoping they are only cutting down on paper and not internet ads.

I never get the ads - don't get the paper and it doesn't come in the mail.

I've always looked at the full list of products on sale online, and then if there is something I want that isn't listed in the ad, I check EL.

The online ad (not page format style) is very complete, category by category and very easy to make a list from.

I wish other stores were as complete online as HT is in listing their sales completely.
