New barcode coupons not scanning & not doubling?

Some of the new insert coupons and several new internet coupons (like the Hillshire link one) only have the long barcode without that little barcode that is the one that usually gets scanned. I tried to use the Hillshire link one today and my store said that if an IP doesn't scan they can't take it and certainly can't double it but this would be the case with the insert coupons too that went to the new barcode.
They wouldn't scan and then would need to be doubled by hand since the computers don't know what to do with these new barcodes.

How are you guys dealing with this situation?

The new GS-1 bar codes contain information (such as if the coupons says DND) and the register now reads them as DND and no override will happen, IF the code scans at all.

On the IP, if their registers are not set up to read the new codes yet, they do have that policy that states if they don't scan, they won't accept them, even though this is not due to anything other than it being the new code issue.

On those from inserts/tear pads etc - if it does not double it is due to one of two things - one, they're system can't accept the new scans and they have to manually enter the coupon (remind them at that time to manually double it as well - always watch the screen as they are scanning!), or two, if their system reads the new code and it does not double, it has been programmed not to double by what has been coded into the bar code. You'll see language on the coupon that states DND as well.

If you miss a coupon while scanning that did not get doubled that should have, and their policy is to double, present your receipt to the CS desk and have it handled before leaving the store. Explain it was one of the new bar code coupons that their system doesn't yet recognize etc.

Until all stores get on board with updated software to read these bar codes, it's going to be up to the customers to keep a watchful eye on them.

In the last four days (so basicaly 80 coupons) I have not had an issue with even one.

But I can not remember if I used any coupons with the new barcodes.

Any others you had trouble with? I never used the hillshire link one. But maybe one of the others?

Im having trouble with them

Ive had all but one insert coupon scan with the hand scanner. Had no issue getting that one put in manually. Assume that a coupon that says DND wont. The butterball coupons scanned but did not double. It stated dnd on the coupon and they coded it that way. The Hillshire Farm coupons (inserts) also said dnd but it did, so they didnt ad it to the code which was a welcome suprise. My biggest concern is coupons that dont say dnd but is coded not too double. There is no way of telling! Its not happened to me personally but I think I recall reading that is has happened.

NONE of the internet printed ones scan even with the hand scanner. Its not my printer, the codes are clear and not distorted in any way. The coupons with the "regular" barcode scan just fine. The issue has come up 3 times and the managers VERY reluctantly put them in manually (incl the Hillshire Farm which the doubled). I know Im going to hit a snag with it in the very near future.

I forsee a very frustrating period ahead as more and more manufacturers are switching to the databar and store systems are outdated. I contacted HT corporate and their reply was suprisingly quite brusk. They told me their systems are GS-1 databar compliant and toughs on the IP's. If it wont scan they wont take it. They have no plans to update their system.

I just cut the Ballpark q's and they have the new barcode too. I wonder if LF and Bi-Lo have the same issues with the new barcodes since I can't use DND's at my HT anyways.

All I can hope for is that those coupons coded DND and state so don't get much use or action by consumers and the companies will see that putting DND on them and coding them as such hurt their sales.

Just like the wimpy 25 cents off Tide type coupons, a wasted ad campaign.

If this is the case then using them at all will end for me. Which just means different options/brands for me. Whatever they-the mfg's throw my away I will work around.

Had problems today using hillshire farms coupon. I had 2 $1 coupons. The computer bundled them together to look like 1 coupon and didnt get the doubles because it looked like a $2 coupon. They gave me back money no questions asked. Also had the .90/4 coupon for hamburger helper and it doubled as if i had only bought 1. The doubled amount was only .10.

If the Colgate, Safeguard, and Excedrin coupons stop doubling that's IT!!!! I'm gonna.........I'm gonna.......I don't know yet but it will be BAAAAAAAAAAAD
