Thumbs Down warning about HT brand orange juice....

I bought 10 HT brand O.J. when they were on sale for $1.97.
I bought them on June 22 because I "think" it was the first day of SD's.
The date on the juice was "sell by June 27th."

Today, I see 5 of the 10 are expanding and look to be spoiled.
I immediately put the other 5 in the freezer.
And I do not have my receipt, though HT should be able to see their name on the label, as well as research my Vic purchase.

    Will they replace these 5?

I opened them, and let the pressure out and put those in the freezer too.
Trying to not make it any worse.
I doubt they make me sick and I could mix the bad ones with the good ones.
Ex: for an 8 ounce glass, use 6oz. good juice and 2oz. of the "unknown." I've tasted spoiled O.J. before and the taste is distinct but won't make you sick.

Sell by June 27 should not be spoiled on July 5.

I buy ALOT of juice at one time (15+) and usually the date is 2-3-4 months after the purchase date.
It appears HT was trying to get rid of the June 27th batch before the date.

The next time you are in any store, HT or not, check the date on O.J. and you should see a "date" that goes out to August, September, etc.
    They are almost far dated.

HT stands behind their products. If your not happy, I am 100% sure they will replace. They can look up with your vic card.

The Harris Teeter OJ is great! It is the same orance juice that you get at McDonalds. HT (or Hunter Farms owned by HT sells it to McDonalds). The HT Preium Ice Cream is sold to Wendys for their frosties. Just thought I'd throw a little trivia your way!!! As for the bad OJ, I'd call your store's customer service. I'm sure that will stand behind it.

I will warn you that bad OJ can make you sick and what's worse is it still tastes fine unlike something like milk. I learned the hard way and it wasn't fun. Just wanted to mention it because like you I thought it'll be ok.

I wanted 20-25 bottles and they only had 12, so I got a raincheck and the limit on that was 3. So, in my original post, the number 10 was an error. I got 12. They were bought on June 22. I discovered the first spoiled one on July 2. There was only one "expanded" plastic bottle. I tried it and the taste was bad, so I threw it out and opened another one which is almost empty. Then yesterday, I noticed that 4 of the remaining 10 bottles were expanded. I immediately put all 10 in the freezer. They were bought 2 weeks ago and I have no receipt. I had to open the 4 bad ones to release the pressure, so they are opened. When frozen they expanded of course and some oozed out the tops. So, I doubt I can return them and without a return HT won't do anything, I'd think. I'll be more careful on the dates because I have always bought as many bottles as I could hold in my freezer, etc. and I notice the dates and get the ones with the latest date. It is July 6th and I would not be surprised at all, to find orange juice dated September in any store. So, when these were all dated June 27th and were on sale June 22nd, I suspect it was not my refrigerator temperature being too high, but these juices were going bad, at least 5 of the 12. The other 7 appear fine. If my refrigerator was the cause, they'd all go bad. So, $10 to be made up on future sales. Or mix 1-2 ounces of bad with good. When I say spoiled I do not know what "literally spoiled juice" taste like or looks like. These plastic bottles had expanded and they were closer to round than square and looked like they were not full. The level of juice was lower because of the pressure inside. I pretty much noticed it early because I open the refrigerator multiple times a day, so it must have developed overnight.

Wendy's frosty is a liquid mix not ice cream from a carton.

My point was that it is not the same thing as HT premium ice cream which is how I read what was quoted.

The type container is now a question mark. In the past, I have never had a problem stockpiling orange juice for 3-4 months.
Here are the brands I get:
Lowes Foods - in a carton
HT premium, Florida's Natural, Minute Maid - in a carton
Simply Orange - plastic screw on cap.

I put 1/2 of the good juice in a glass prune juice bottle with metal lid. The other half stayed in the HT plastic bottles. As I used the juice in the HT container, the taste started to deteriorate. TWO weeks later I open the juice in the glass prune juice bottle and it taste fine. I think the plastic bottles with the snap on plastic lid that can be flipped open with one finger or your teeth are suspect. The more securely packaged cartoned juice and the Simply Orange containers appear to keep juice longer.
The next time HT has their juice on sale in these crushable plastic bottles, if the date is close to the sale date, I will avoid it and I advise others to be careful on this brand of juice and the type container.
