This is the policy you would have to buy 10 cans at my store to use that coupon. You are paying for two and getting the other 3 free.
Hi all! Okay so the Green Giants veggies were B2G3 last week. I went to the HT on Davis and High House in Cary, NC and attempted to buy the 5 cans and use one coupon. Cashier would not accept my coupon and jerk manager would not either because it was a BOGO item. I pointed her to the policy which states that one coupon can be used on BOGO deals and that I was only attempting to use one coupon so I did not understand what the problem was. . .
The manager said that since the coupon stated "save $1 off 4 cans" and I was technically only purchasing "2" (as the other 3 cans were "free"), they would not accept my coupon. Frustrated, I made them cancel the order and decided to hit another HT on the way home.
The same thing happen!!!!!This time at the Hwy 55 and High House HT in Cary, NC. The manager gave same explanation that I was only "buying" 2. She was a little nicer than the manager at the first store and pushed my coupon through (the cash register did beep), but said she would not push such coupons through in the future.
I find this highly annoying.
Would love to hear your thoughts. . .

I had sanity once upon a time I promise. It was just so long agoooo that I can't remember it
.
you need to buy all 10 cans so you pay for 4 get 6 free
While I find their BOGO policy HIGHLY annoying, it is their policy and they certainly have the right to enforce it that way. I'm sorry you had such a bad experience.

I think you were following their coupon policy to the letter. BOGO sale, one coupon. If they mean to say that you can't use a coupon on a free item, they should say that explicitly in the policy instead of saying one coupon on a BOGO sale.
Besides which, the policy specifically addresses a Buy One, Get One Free sale and doesn't talk about a Buy Two, Get Three Free sale at all. That pretty much leaves the whole thing up to manager interpretation, and they will ultimately interpret it as they want to.
It makes me cringe when I hear of this happening. Fortunately most of the HT's I shop at do not enforce this...at least not yet. It worries for the future though. I am that it happened to you.
This is my closest store and I used to love them. I never had any hassle with using coupons there. I even wrote to corporate telling them what a great store it was (no mention of coupons). No more
Apparently corporate came down on them about 6 months ago for not enforcing the coupon policy and unfortunately it made them turn in to the coupon police. Told me its the manufacturers cracking down bec using a coupon on a free item would be coupon fraud. Nonsense! Its 100% for HT benefit. First of all, its not free when my receipt says 50%. Second, HT is choosing to sell the item at BOGO and even if my receipt shows 0, I still met the purchase requirements. Im running in to the same issue at the other HT you mentioned and the one in Apex. The manager at HT in Apex was a real jerk a few weeks ago when he refused the Libbys Fruit coupon on pineapple.
Ive been buying 1 BOGO item at a time to get around this but unfortunately that only works for $/1 coupons. Its not a pleasure to shop there anymore.
Sorry for your frustration, Im right there with you! Whats up with the rude managers these days?! I always remain polite bec I think you can accomplish more that way than throwing a tantrum (burns me up inside, Id love to yell and tell them straight)
Yep. These are my treading grounds...
Used to be very pleasant, now I find myself timing my shopping trips to avoid certain white shirts.
I was accused of coupon fraud at the Cornerstone store (using a coupon that had print on the back side. Unfortunately it was an odd looking little pdf. But her reasoning was since there was printing on the back side, I must have copied it...)
I was told yesterday by the white shirt at the 55/Highhouse Rd store that she couldn't take the .55 Buddig coupon on a 1.00 item because it would make it free. I said, "I believe you can. The coupon will adjust so there is no overage". She said, no, it wouldn't work. So I just very sweetly said, "Could you just try?" She did, and watched the .55 coupon multiply by .45. I said thank you very much! And left.
The 55 store is still one of my favorite. I love everyone there. I would say the white shirt lady that wanted to deny my .55 coupon is the only one I have trouble with.
In fact, strangely, she seemed to purposefully kick the cashier aside yesterday so she could take over my order (I had 2 transactions so that I could get some more Buddig). I really think his shift was over, but her timing was suspicious.
I love, love, love the 2 African-American gentlemen who work there in the daytime. They are so cheerful and make checking out so pleasant.
I also love the lady who works in the late evening- pretty, middle aged dark haired. Not sure if she is a white shirt or not. She can't override, so I guess not.
And the tall grey haired manager. He came from the Cornerstone store. He's cool.
So many wonderful people, but a few bad apples.
Apex hasn't given me a problem yet - at least not in years. I do stay away from tall blond lady white shirt.
I stay away from the 55 store as well.I agree with you about the two african- american gentlemen.Very pleasant to interact with.As for the white shirt lady with curly red hair...very rude and seems to always have excuses to not accept valid coupons.I have stopped shopping there because of her.I had a similar experience with her during one of the double events where she pushed aside a young cashier to ring me up and I am not an extreme couponer at all.I stop by in HT maybe once in two weeks or maybe twice in a week if there is a coupon event.
I like how descriptive you are about the "good" ones. There is a blond shoulder length white shirt at the 55/High House that is soooo nice to me. I usually have lots of extra coupons so I decided to give her some that would net her free items. She "loves" to see me now!
