QUESTION HT - confused about BOGO when you have $x/multiple coupon

I am confusing myself the more I try to think about this. Can someone help me out?

How does it work when there's a BOGO sale but you have a coupon for x amount off three?

For BOGO sales at HT you can only use one coupon.

But I have a Green Giant Valley Fresh Steamers coupon for $0.60/3.

Do I need to actually put SIX bags of veggies in my cart for the coupon to work?

Or, since they ring up at half-price, can I put three in my cart and use the coupon?

Why can't I figure this out? :hectic1:

You can buy 3 bags and use one coupon. The rule is one coupon per BOGO.

I will say some stores require you to buy 1 full set or in this case 6 bags but that does not happen to me in CLT.

Thanks for replying!

So if I am not mistaken it would look like this (using expresslane prices):

VIC price $1.29 and they are BOGO.

So the first one at $1.29, the second one free, and the third one at $1.29

$0.60/3 doubled = $1.20 off

$1.29 x 2 = $2.58 - $1.20 = $1.38 for three or $0.46ea

I guess I could even get four? Since the second one of the second pair would be free.

Am I doing this right?

You will ultimately pay 50% off each item. I believe you HT will allow you to buy just one of a BOGO and get 50% off - most do.

Reg Price: 2.59 of steamers
Sale Price: 1.29 for just one
Use .60/3 =1.20 off

1.29 x 3 = 3.87
minus 1.20

Final: 2.67

Average per bag is .89 each

I think I figured that right.

HT does their BOGO sales as "half off". $1.29 is half the regular price. Your scenario would look like this:

$1.29 x 3 = $3.87 - $1.20 = 3/$2.67 (or 89¢ each).

A better bet would be to use two 50¢ printables:

$1.29 x 2 = $2.58 - (2) $1 = 2/58¢

Check the database, I see Valley Fresh Steamers on coupons.com or Smartsource all the time. The only problem with this is that their official coupon policy states one coupon per BOGO item. I've never had a cashier enforce this with me, but if you had one who was insistent, you could do separate transactions. HTH.

Okay well just to complicate things I realized that my Valley Fresh coupons are as follows:

$0.50/2 (I have two of these)
$0.40/1

So it would go $1.29 x 2 = $2.58 - $1 = $1.58 or $0.79each

and

$1.29 - $0.80 = $0.49

So $2.07 for three which averages out to $0.69 each

The only reason I am obsessing over this is that I am trying to do a better job of estimating my OOP so I know if there are mistakes at the register.

Since your coupons are not alike this should help your cause. As far as using the .40/1, some HT shoppers report that they are not allowed to use 1 coupon on 1 item (of a B1G1 free deal). HT's issue they have created is their policy is directed towarded a real B1G1 free sale, but they ring up each item at half price which is a 50% off sale. And theoretically and logically, BUT contrary to their rules, it implies one coupon per item. But, as we know, that is not their rules. And their corporate rules are the first set of rules and have priority. As with every store chain, every sale, every coupon deal, etc. YMMV.

At my HT, they interpret the rule (as does corporate... believe me, I have called), as follows:

The coupon only applies to the ones you are "purchasing" and not the "free" ones, so on a B1G1 sale, you are only purchasing 1 by their rules. This means that I would have to buy 3 to use a $xx/2 coupon, since only 2 are being purchased. If I had a $xx/3 coupon, then I would have to buy 5 (2 are "free"). I don't even attempt these deals anymore, even though I know some of the student cashiers would probably let it slide. The fact that the manufacturers keep putting out more of these $xx/multiple coupons has become very frustrating.

But in the end, YMMV.
