Harris Teeter ~ Vent: What part of "all others will be redeemed at face value" says we will only take 3 like coupons!

I lost an argument today with a white shirt manager because she held to the fact that she would only take 3 like coupons. I was trying to use 4 - $2.00 off coupons; not coupons that double. HT's policy specifically says they will only double 3 but will redeem all others at face value.

After arguing a bit, I said - "Delores, you and I have argued about this before (because we have) and you agreed with me last time after reading the policy together. What has changed." She repeated only 3 like coupons and I said, lets go read the coupon policy again. She said she'd be happy to look at it with me but she had several things she had to do first and I could wait for her at the CS counter.

I didn't have time to wait because I think she was just going to leave me there forever anyway and I have a life to get back to.

I am so frustrated with this....This manager is an absolute idiot and has no people skills....I think I have decided to just assume this is the written policy so I can keep my blood pressure and stress down!

I posted something very similar. The manager wouldn't allow me to use more than 3 like coupons when I wasn't trying to double them!

Thankfully this wasn't my regular HT anyway, otherwise I would be calling corporate and requesting them to clarify to the manager for me.

I haven't had any luck with corporate...although I have not called; I have just e-mailed.

This manager has no reading comprehension skills; it was very obvious the first time we read the policy together.

I had a cashier try to tell me that I could only use 20 coupons period. I had to get a white shirt to clarify the policy for her. Then I had another cashier tell me that I couldn't use more than 2 IP's per order. I think all the employees read the policy different. :hectic1:

I don't even bother with trying to use more than 3 coupons at HT anymore. It isn't worth the hassel.

This happened to me as well with the same white shirt manager 2 months apart at one particular store here. Both times I had to call corporate to straighten her out and the 2nd time I also got the store manager involved. He totally agreed with me but I was already peeved and had corporate on the line b/c I wanted them to take note of it all. Now I just go to the one closer to my house that are absolutely wonderful and I only go to that particular store if something is out of stock at mine.

I have ONE white shirt that is not at my regular store that I have an issue with too. AND I have spoken with other employees that have worked with him and agree he is.....difficult to say the least.
Luckily at my regular store they are intelligent and don't have chips on their shoulders. Although I would have definately stuck around to prove my point-after all, what did she have to do that was more important than taking care of the customer that she was currently waiting on? Answer the phone? THAT SO TICKS ME OFF! I take the time to walk in the store and shop and the person that managed to pick up the phone and dial gets priority over ME-the CUSTOMER! OK, slightly OT..sorry rant over. But really first come first served right?

Just this afternoon, I tried to redeem 6 of my Catalina generated $1/1 Oikos coupons for 3 strawberry and 3 blueberry Oikos yogurts. The cashier would only accept 3 of the coupons. I tried to explain the coupon policy as I understand it (3 identical items...) but since I was purchasing different flavors does not make them identical items and the coupons don't double anyway. She (and the manager) wouldn't budge. I didn't make a big deal because I was stopping by Lowes Foods on my way home and told them to take the items off my order and that I would just use them at Lowes since they also have the Oikos on sale 5/$5.

I actually used all 12 of the HT generated Oikos Catalina's that I had since the Lowes policy is for 4 identical items (I bought 4 each of 3 flavors). Hooray for Lowes Foods!!

Was the CS at HT right? Has their coupon policy changed and I don't understand it correctly?

You understood HT's policy correctly, but apparently they don't understand it at all. The policy says that they will double up to 3 identical items w/ coupons, and that all others will be accepted at face value. Since your coupons were for $1.00 off, the '3 identical items' thing shouldn't even be an issue, but unfortunately a lot of cashiers/CS/etc don't understand it the way it's WRITTEN. I mean is it really that hard to READ the policy and implement it exactly as it's laid out on paper, and online for customers to view? Very frustrating sometimes. And if you really THINK about it, it makes sense for them to limit doubling and tripling coupons (b/c any amount over the face value that they multiply, they take a loss on and do not get reimbursed more than the actual face value of the coupon, so it makes sense for them to limit doubling activity), BUT they get reimbursed for the full value of coupons $1.00 and up since they don't double them, so handing over those 6 $1.00 coupons was just like handing over 6 $1.00 bills - no reason they should limit CASH coming into the store, right? But they don't see it that way - they see coupons=discount=less-cash-in-the-drawer and think that they are supposed to limit ALL coupons, but that is not the case.

I got the same thing when I tried to use 4 $2 frozen pizza Qs. She told me "I can only take three of these." I told her "you can only double three, that one doesn't double anyway." She and the supervisor who had to override it asked me if I wanted to look at the policy. If I'd had time, I'd have either reviewed the policy with them or just gotten another pizza and used another Q in a separate transaction 3 minutes later. I wanted to say "obviously YOU need to review the policy" but I refrained.

I'm already gearing up for arguments about IPs when they start super doubles this week. One cashier tried to tell me that they limit IPs to 2 per order. The policy is pretty poorly worded: "With the purchase of two like manufacturer's products, we accept two internet coupons, per store, per day". To me, that means you can buy 2 Cheerios and use 2 IPs, 2 Kleenex and use 2 IPs, 2 Lysol and use 2 IPs, etc.

I have a copy of their coupon policy in my binder, but I'm considering separating out my IPs into different transactions just to avoid problems. Especially since I'm going to try and go first thing in the morning, when the young dudes are in school and the middle-aged, misinformed coupon enforcement squad members are more likely to be there.
