QUESTION Harris-Teeter: More than one transaction incident and question

About 2 weeks ago (during the Pillsbury Cat/OEP cat/GM deal) I went up to one of my favorite cashiers and said I had 2 transactions and he said that he would have to check if I could. What? He went over the manager looked at me and shook his head yes. When the cashier came back he said they were getting very strict about this as people take advantage but since I was in there all the time and they knew me it was fine. I haven't had more than one transaction since then but wanted to know if anyone was having any similar experiences with trying to do more than one transaction.

Yes, of course you can do more than one transaction. I know there is a limit as to how many you can do per day but I have done four in a row just last month. First three were to take advantage of the Pillsbury deal and the last one was I forgot to buy milk because I was too overwhelmed with the coupons and Cats.

Cheers.

I haven't had that experience but I would bet corporate would completely back up any manager who told you that you could not do more than one. It is really at the discretion of the store whether they allow you to do multiple transactions - even if you are not going over the "per day" limits. Not saying that's "right" just saying that's how it is.

I've only ever seen them limit transactions during triples or super doubles. But then again, I don't usually try to do back to back transactions at the same register. If a deal is good enough I will go everyday or visit more than one store. If I only have time to shop one day, but want to do more than one transaction I will check out once, take it to the car and then come back for another round of shopping. This method seems to make it less obvious. If it's not busy and I do check out with the same person the second time I just gush about how it was such a great deal I had to come back again. That usually gets a smile out of them. Lately I've been dragging my DH to the store late at night, handing him coupons and letting him do one transaction while I do another (we don't go over the 20 coupon limit between us).

I've done it before. Usually it's because I want certain things separated for different rebates, but a couple of times during last super doubles I did two separate transactions so I could start off with a catalina from the cheese in the first transaction and use it during the second. I included a BOGO Finish tabs in each and they let me do that without a problem. I guess it depends on the cashier/manager, but if you explain why and it makes sense, I think they'd let you.

This is when I conveniently look somewhat harassed before starting my order and complaining to my cashier that my mother-in-law and my sister-in-law begged me to get a few things for them at the store but to do it as seperate orders. I did that at Lowe's before Christmas with the McCormick deal. I did 4 orders and used my Catalina's toward the next order and said "Hey, they sent me here to get this stuff because it was on sale. I'll reap the rewards." and then used my last Cat plus my $20 in Fresh Rewards Cash to purchase my ham, turkey, and a handful of other things, too.

In another thread about HT super doubles, I mentioned that if I had 28 coupons, I'd use 20 and take that order to the car, and go back in and use the other 8 coupons.

I was told that the limit is one per day (meaning only 20 coupons can be doubled per day).

However other's suggested multiple trips on a single visit.

It may be YMMV.
It's not that you can't do multiple orders...you can. But you can't exceed 20 coupons per day, and that is tracked by the VIC card. Some people like to separate their orders and do, say, 10 coupons in the first order, then another 10 in the second. That is fine, b/c the 20 per day is not exceeded. Does that make sense? It used to be much easier at HT!!!

Thanks for all of your input. I was only using 20 coupons but wanted to do 3 transactions to roll cats and have the least oop. Just the day before it was not a problem but this particular cashier told me that corporate is crackind down on those who take advantage of the system?! Huh, not my fault that my coupons match your ads and I don't spend a lot of money. I guess being a smart shopper is working the system? Since I posted this I have been asked a few times if I am doing one transaction or more with no problem. So who knows what was up with him that day.
