QUESTION Newbie as of last night and confused??

I have a question that probably makes complete sense to most, but for some reason I cannot grasp it!

H.T. has BOGO Smart Balance products and then I have a coupon for $ 1 off 2. Do I have to purchase a total of 4 because really I am only purchasing 2 when I purchase 4 because of the BOGO deal.

AND

Tomato sauce is 2 for $5 and I have a coupon for a $1 off 2...again do I have to purchase 4 and spend $10 to get the $1 off to make it $9?

HELP! I want to do this, but I am confused.

Thanks everyone. :)

Smart Balance: Even though they are BOGO, you are still buying two items even though they're on sale. So you should buy two and you can use $1 off 2 q.

Tomato Sauce: They are 2 for $5 so buy 2 and use the $1 off two making them $2 each.

You can use a coupon on top of a sale. It's called stacking. Each UPC code is one item, so use that to help judge how many items you need for a q. The sale price comes off as well as the coupon. Helps you get a better deal than using a coupon on a non sale item. Hope that helps.

Are you sure about the first scenario? I thought in that case you would need to buy 4.:shrug7:

In the strictest of stores they would not allow a $/2 coupon to be used on a BOGO. Thankfully I do not shop in those stores, but I have heard of people who were told they would have to buy 4, because of the 1 coupon on a BOGO policy.

I've read about that happening on here before to other people, but I have never had a problem using a $/2 coupon on a bogo either. I have had trouble using two $/1 coupons on bogo, so with those I usually pick up one item per trip. (unless I am at my favorite coupon friendly HT, where they are not so strict.) Good luck with your couponing - it's fun but super addicting. :-)

each BOGO item rings up at half price, so you are technically buying both items, just at half price each. to use a XX/2 Q just get 2 items.

Thanks everyone! I went ahead and tried it and they let me use all my coupons. This was my first go at it and I spent $160 and saved $125. I know I can do better at it since I see people spending so much less, but it wasn't too bad for my first try. I do want to cut back on my time a bit though...I spent 4 hours trying to work through all of the sites. I already have a few ideas on how I am going to work this better. I need to read through this site more for the do's and don'ts.

I've argued that point at my HT many a time, and I've yet to win one of those arguements.

Saving $125 sounds like a good start to me! Keep working at it, and let us know how things go!

HT's policy is that you can use one coupon on a bogo deal - IMO that means a $1/2 is fine, since you are using one coupon on two items, as stated in the policy. Unfortunately many stores choose to interpret it differently and corporate will generally tell you that it is up to the store manager how he or she enforces the policy.
