QUESTION Is it dishonest to...

use a coupon that states "do not double" and it doubles?

I have been really careful no to use them, but tonight I had already loaded up my basket and then looked at the coupons (came from Kellogg's cereal boxes) and noticed they said, "do not double" but began with 5, so I used them. Well they had an issue with another coupon I had so the manager came over and noticed that I had used some saying "do not double" I still had two more to use, he adjusted those and then said, "it's late I'm not going through all those you already used. (total of 5). So I am now feeling guilty and have a HUGE conscious, and want to make things right...what would you do?

I'd be mad that the manager adjusted the ones he did!

ditto to the others- stores choose to offer doubles/triples at their cost. The manufacturer doesn't pay for doubles, so why even put it on there?

I had asked on here before why coupons say "do not double" and was told manufacturers do this because they want to see how much consumers are willing to pay for their product and doubling the coupons messes up their stats. Makes sense to me.

To answer your question, NO I don't think it's dishonest. I coupon very, very carefully and honestly and if a store is offering to double my coupons then that's what I let them do It shouldn't matter that it says DND, unless a store specifically picks the DNDs out and doesn't let them double. YOu couldn't argue with that I guess. Then, I'd go to a different store and give them my money!

Default Re: Is it dishonest to...

I work for a manufacturer's coupon agent, and I just asked someone why the manufacturers put "DND" and the 9 to keep coupons from doubling... basically, why do they care???

The retailer charges the manufacturer the doubled amount when they double coupons that don't have DND and if they have asked them to put the 9 in their barcode and haven't they charge the manufacturer for the doubled amount...

I always thought the retailer "ate" the doubled amount, but they don't; the manufacturer does...That's why they care!

So to insist a coupon that says DND to be doubled would be dishonest because the manufacturer is stating that they don't want to pay double for that coupon.
