| Order of Coupons and VIC Card Questions? Hi, "y'all"--
I am new to the HCW forum and shop at N VA Harris Teeter stores alot. We save about $500 a month on groceries. I have a few questions regarding VIC cards and the order of coupons, Manufacturer coupons, Competitor coupons, etc. that you present to the cashier after your groceries are scanned.
I searched on the HT threads but couldn't find any information. Here goes--
1. I use the $/$$ off coupons (Competitor Coupons) off total orders with no problems after the cashier has a subtotal before all my "deals" for coupon savings.
2. Do you present your VIC card to the cashier after the $/$$ off coupons (i.e. $10 off $50) before your VIC card is scanned or wait to end of the sale after coupons are deducted? I wait till the cashier is finished scanning my groceries and ask for a subtotal and then give the cashier the $/$$ coupon.
3. Also, which is best to do, give the cashier the VIC card first then the Manufacturer coupons ($.99 and under for doubling/tripling), $1.00 and up coupons, and then the Competitor coupons (not the $/$$ coupons)?
4. Does it make a difference if you scan the VIC card before or after the Manufacturer or Competitor coupons? I always do my VIC card, the Manufacturer coupons, and then the Competitor coupons. Is this the best way to do it?
5. Lastly, should I do my Manufacturer coupons first, VIC Card, and then the Competitor Coupons--or does the order of scanning coupons matter?
6. I know about how to scan DND coupons, etc.; just trying to find the most beneficial way of getting the best deals!
7. I forgot to ask if HT accepts the CVS Extra Care Bucks $2 coupons as Competitor coupons. Also, will HT accept Competitor Rx New/Transferred prescription coupons from Competitors (i.e. Walgreens, Rite Aid, and CVS)?
I couldn't find any threads that gave a scenario of scanning the coupon(s) order correctly with the VIC card or other store Loyalty cards. Some people from CVS threads suggested to do the CVS Loyalty card, Manufacturer coupons, and other coupons for the best results.
Sorry for the long post. Thanks for all your help

| Re: Order of Coupons and VIC Card Questions? 1. I use the $/$$ off coupons (Competitor Coupons) off total orders with no problems after the cashier has a subtotal before all my "deals" for coupon savings. This is YMMV (your mileage may vary). I have one store that will allow the $/$$ first and then the manufactuer's coupons. At all other stores it has to be after my coupons have been scanned. So if I have a $10 off $40 my total has to be $40 after all coupons and VIC savings.
I think what you are asking is if they scan all items you have bought before scanning your card they will ring up full price to get your total up so you can use a $/$$ - then scan your VIC card to get further savings and then the man qs. Personally I give my VIC card first - cashiers always ask for it and that is what I am comfortable doing. Can you do items, $/$$ qs, VIC card then man qs? Yes but it would defintely depend on the cashier.
3. Also, which is best to do, give the cashier the VIC card first then the Manufacturer coupons ($.99 and under for doubling/tripling), $1.00 and up coupons, and then the Competitor coupons (not the $/$$ coupons)? I always do my .99 and under, watch and make sure they double (or triple if it is triple time) and then hand over $1+. HT does not accept competitor's coupons such as Target IPs, or FLIPS, Walgreens qs etc - they changed their policy last year and only accept $/$$ competitor's coupons now. Please note if your store allows something different do not post it on HCW - we follow the store written coupon policy when posting.
4. Does it make a difference if you scan the VIC card before or after the Manufacturer or Competitor coupons? I always do my VIC card, the Manufacturer coupons, and then the Competitor coupons. Is this the best way to do it? I do it in that order, except my one store that allows me to do the competitor $/$$ first - so my order is card, $/$$ competitor and then man qs.
5. Lastly, should I do my Manufacturer coupons first, VIC Card, and then the Competitor Coupons--or does the order of scanning coupons matter? No scanning order does not matter unless you are trying to do the answer to #2
6. I know about how to scan DND coupons, etc.; just trying to find the most beneficial way of getting the best deals! HT was very strict the last triple event about DND coupons - usually coupons that start with "5" will automatically triple/double, "9s" do not. DND 5's have to be manually pulled by cashier and entered. Some cashiers will do this. Note some coupons are funky - like the Dannon yogurt .60/6 - they will only double/triple up to the full price of the first item. So if a yogurt is .75 each you will see the q scan at .60, then double to .15. You would have to point it out to the cashier that it should have doubled to $1.20 or tripled to $1.80 to cover the value of the 6 yogurts you bought. Now if the coupon says DND on it, they will not double it.
7. I forgot to ask if HT accepts the CVS Extra Care Bucks $2 coupons as Competitor coupons. Also, will HT accept Competitor Rx New/Transferred prescription coupons from Competitors (i.e. Walgreens, Rite Aid, and CVS)? I think it varies by store - if you have a CVS, Wags and RA close to the store and thet consider them a competitor then yes they will take them.

| Re: Order of Coupons and VIC Card Questions? Thanks, Jen, for answering my long post. I will do the $/$$ at total, VIC card, Mfg. Coupons, then Competitor Coupons. I tried this recently and used a $2 ECB CVS coupon (Competitor Coupon) and it worked.
On a sidenote, why is the last time visited clock time not current after I refreshed the post?
Anyway, I agree VIC card, Mfg. Qs and Competitor Qs works. YMMV for CVS ECBs and RR. We have in N VA numerous Walgreens, CVS, etc. and HT stores.
Thanks again,

| Re: Order of Coupons and VIC Card Questions? Just wanted to follow-up on the CVS Extra Care Bucks (ECB) coupons and Harris Teeter (HT) accepting the $2 ECB(s) that are printed in the CVS ads in Sunday newspapers. Recently, at a new HT store, I was able to use the $2 ECB(s) as Competitor coupons. So it is YMMV if a HT store will accept the ECB(s) for Competitor coupons.
Also, if you have a new HT opening a new store, check your receipts at the bottom for the drugstore VIC savings. At the Warrenton, VA new store opening, with each new prescription (transferred included, I believe), you will receive a $20 e-coupon for usage for your next purchase at HT (can be used for groceries, etc.--not just for prescriptions) when you scan your VIC card. What a great deal to combine with the double and/or triple sales when HT has the great sales! I believe it goes from 06/09/09 to 10/09 (not sure of dates) for the new Warrenton, VA store. So, check out your new HT stores that open and look at the bottom of your receipt for the drugstore info for VIC card savings. I received my e-coupon and will be back each 30 days to fill a new prescription for my kids. Yahoo!

Just "fixin'" to head out and shop at HT in N VA. Quick question regarding the NEW 20 limit coupon policies. When your VIC card is scanned, does the 20 limit coupon apply ONLY to Manufacturer coupons and not Competitor coupons? How does that count on your coupon total limits on your VIC cards?
Read my above posts on this thread on how I saved a "ton" on my last trip to HT. Also, I do know about the order of higher valued coupons, etc. Just curious if the 20 limit coupon policy only works for Manufacturer coupon counts or ALL Manufacturer and Competitor coupons.
Thanks and Happy Shopping--

Foodie | the 20 coupons is referring to coupons that will be doubled. you can use as many coupons as you want I think, but they will not double them past 20, you will get the face value only.
here is the coupon policy if you would like to check it out

| Re: Order of Coupons and VIC Card Questions? Hi,
I went to my new HT in N VA today and did quite well. Roughly, I spent before VIC card, Competitor coupons, and Manufacturer coupons, around $89 and some change--after all discounts--final total was $29 and some change. Not too bad!
I bought the General Mills cereals 3/$6 (received a rain check also), Lipton Iced Tea bags, Angel Soft 12 roll toliet paper, Electrosol 60 count gelpaks, Gold Bond foot lotion, and some other products. Basically, all my Manufacturer coupons $1 and up to $2 doubled, Walgreens Angel Soft coupon (Competitor coupon) for $5.45, and I had $5/$25 coupons (Competitor coupons) from Shoppers Food Warehouse, Rite-Aid, Bloom, and an IP coupon also. The clerk did not think the IP coupon would scan; but I told her to try it and it worked! I also was able to use the CVS ECB(s) for Competitor coupons.
She was surprised also, The Competitor coupons may YMMV. I love my new store. Great clerks and managers!
Good luck--
