Harris Teeter - Policy Re Using a BOGOF coupon w/B2G3F

I had problems with my store manager last night who would not allow me to use a BOGO Free cooupon in conjunction with a B2G3F sales. She told me I would have to purchase another box of crackers in order to be able to use the coupon.

So, I called corporate this morning to clarify this policy, and after being on hold several times for several minutes, the gentleman told me that was correct. Basically, he said that it was too confusing of a transaction for the cashier, so I couldn't use the coupon. It would be better for everyone if I just did a separate transaction. I reminded him that it may be better for HT but not for the consumer. He said that since the policy says, "We reserve the right to limit coupon usage, the manager was well within her limits to not let me use the coupon."

I'm really not trying to break the rules. I am trying hard to abide by the rules in their policy, but I am very frustrated. I thought I was within their policy. Am I missing something?

I, too, always try to use my Qs legally, legitimately, and morally. It seems that you feel that way, too. Sometimes, though, there are just some situations where YMMV (your mileage may vary). It is discouraging when something like your situation occurs, but, overall, do you feel as if couponing is helping you? If it's an overwhelming "yes," then, just mark this one up to the learning process.

i used a bogo Q for the nabisco crackers when they were b2g3...i think it all depends on the cashier you get. i felt i was within the guidelines also as i was still buying one.

I would feel like that was okay:

You are "buying" 2 boxes of crackers and getting 3 for free.

You are using the b1g1f on the 2 boxes you are buying - using the coupon to "pay" for one box then using cash (or whatever) to pay for the other box. The 3 free boxes don't count as far as that is concerned, they are "extras", kwim?

I hope that makes sense, but as far as making that case to the store, that would be extremely YMMV. Ever since they changed the b1g1f policy and allowed the purchase of one item at half price, it seems that most people at the stores (be they cashiers, CS, or management) all interpret the rules differently. And when you bump it up to b2g3f it becomes even mroe confusing for some of them! LOL

Michelle - you know you were in the right. All I can say is HT is 99% of the time a very coupon friendly compared to their other grocery stores in Charlotte. I guess you'll have to either try another HT when a similar deal comes along or chock it up as a loss and know anothe deal is around the corner. Sorry you had a hard time!

That's too bad. I feel in general that my HT is super coupon friendly. One about 5 minutes away from me isn't though. However, I do get frustrated with those BOGO coupons. I mean, if they want to claim that the sale is truly BOGO (instead of 50% off) then we should be able to use a BOGO coupon with a BOGO sale right? I think it's best when companies stay consistent throughout instead of going with whatever benefits them at the moment (not that HT does this).

Sorry to hear about your experience. I had a similiar thing happen to me recently. Manager stated I could not use B1G1 Free, that the policy stated no free item coupons. After explaining the coupon states that I have to buy to get free & it isn't a coupon to get a single item free. Also that its not a internet coupon, etc (pulled out my copy of the store policy)...manager response was ... "I will this time", as if I was doing wrong...when it was actually his way of saying ......you are right, but I won't admit to being wrong, thats why I am changing my mind and letting you do it. I have found in instances like this that if its not in my favor, I just put it back wait a day or two and go back (new mananger on duty & cashier) and things go smooth. Also, very helpful tool is to carry a copy of the store policy. I usually carry a copy of the policy & point out where I can without saying much.
