This topic came up at work today. There are many stores, companies, etc. that no longer allow their employees to utter this phrase. I rarely decide to jump in with both feet unless I truly feel strongly about a topic. This is one time I will jump in without hesitation.
I have never made any bones about my belief in God and have always respected others right not to share the same opinion. I have always said "I will defend to the death your right to have your opinion (even if it is different than mine) but expect the same from you." I may not agree with you but I still respect you as a person.
What saddens me is that we are fast becoming a country that is so worried about offending each other that we are taking away our own rights to be individuals along the way. What ever happened to the true meaning of debating or "arguing" and still remaining civil?
I will always say Merry Christmas because that is what I focus on during this season. If others wish to say Happy Holidays, Seasons Greetings, etc. that is also fine. I just ask that I can maintain my right to think differently and not be penalized for my individualism.
Ok, stepping out of the deep end and back onto dry land.

I agree with you. If someone said Happy Kwanzaa or Hanukkah to me I would not be offended. Sometimes this PC crap annoys me.

Married since '01 to my Joe, and Finally, Finally Mommy to 3!Daughters, ages 5 and 2, and our son, age 1. Back home with us August 2011 after an attempted adoption August 2010. So thankful!
I dont just walk up to random strangers and say Merry Christmas or anything like that.![]()
Like said above, if someone gave me a holiday cheer wish for another holiday they celebrated I would say it right back. For me, its not about the words specifically, its the thought behind them and the seasonal cheer.
For those that do not celebrate Christmas, do you celebrate another holiday at this time of year? Willing to share?
I say Merry Christmas.
If someone responds with Happy Hanukkah, I think it's great. If they said Happy Solstice, I would be fine with it.
To each his own. Enough with the PC garbage.

I can see that point and agree i don't want to make others feel uncomfortable but I think the same should apply in the reverse. It comes across not from you but in general that I am not to make others feel uncomfortable but it does not matter how I feel or if it makes me feel uncomfortable in return. That is really what I have a problem with.
Okay, 'Happy Day Off' then!J/K...many people work on Christmas. This reminds me of the time I was working at a supermarket (I was a teen-ager...hadn't learned about the glories of coupons yet, lol!). I was SO careful not to say 'Merry Christmas' (I was shy then...didn't want to allow the possibility of being yelled at!).
All day long, all season long it was 'Happy Holidays' or 'Have a great holiday' until we were closing on Christmas Eve. Well, what do I say to the very Jewish front end manager when he told me I could go home?!
Very loudly, "Thanks, Mike, and a MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU!!!!" He said, 'Okay.' and then it hit me. I thought I was going to die. :frown: LOL!
