My kids did a handprint heart painting last year. It was totally cute. You have them hold their thumbs and pointer fingers together to make a heart when they put their painted hands on the paper.
I actually checked out Pinterest this morning for ideas for my church kids. Lots of cool stuff on there!

I saw this on Pinterest and though maybe the 7-8yr olds would be able to do it.

Last year we did a foot print heart on a white doilie (is that how you spell it?)
Just make red or pink foot prints in a v shape and when it is dry cut it out. Put on some colored paper with a little poem. It turns out really cute.
"This is to remind you
When I have grown so tall,
That once I was quite little
And my feet were very small."
My daughter's class did a couple of things when they were younger. One was to stack the large conversation hearts. I do not recommend doing this. Why? Some kid will get the bright idea to like the hearts to get them to stick together. They always do. The object is to get the highest stack before the time is up.
The one that the kids really liked was to use a pair of chopsticks to take small conversation hearts out of a bowl and put them onto a small plate. The one with the most when the time runs out is the winner. We found that the cheap chopsticks that you get for free at a Chinese restaurant are the easiest to use for the little kids. The fancier ones that you buy have a much smoother surface and work better for the older kids who seem to like more of a challenge.
Two thumbprints inked in red or pink makes a cute heart, too. Subscribing because I have a Valentine board on pinterst. Will get back to ya after shopping.
