Well that's a good question! I make a turkey and all of that good stuff some years and then other years, we make foods that are from all over the world that would be made for celebrations like Christmas. I've been known to make 300 tamales and put them aside in the freezer for a month, I make tons of polish food - and who knows what else, whatever strikes me at any given time, I suppose lol!! As long as it's food that I have to really spend some time on and really get my hands in it, it could qualify for such an event :)

yep fresh homemade tamales is one that we will be having. We like turkey, ham and all that but after TG we have usually had enough of that for awhile.

I ask this question for someone told me that having mexican food was a odd thing to have for christmas. Not for us we have been doing it for a few years now.

LOL I dont have to worry about the store not having what I need that is for sure..Running out that is, some mexican items are hard to find tho.

Oh no, that's not odd at all, it's fairly common, in fact. I think they just wanted to come over for tamales :D

I wanted to mail order some really good tamales this year. Now that I have a freezer, I could do that. I did buy some tamales at Costco. Not sure how good they are or not.

Christmas Eve we are all meeting up (parents, bro and his family) for dinner at a restaurant then back to my parent's house for presents, the surprise ball and dessert.

Christmas Day I am making something for my husband that his mom used to make. Only he likes it. Pasta, shrimp and garlic. We accidentally bought linguine. It's supposed to be angel hair. Oh well! That's what he will get. Daughter and I will have tuna casserole. Not very festive I know but one of daughter's favorite foods.

We are having dinner on Sunday at DD's house. It's turned into a smorsgasbord to say the least! DD's DBF is making venison chili and ordering tamales. Now how do you build a meal around that?

Sooo, it's kind of turned into a free for all, bring whatever you like. Sis is bringing cornbread for the chili, a ham n cheese plate and puppy chow for snacking.

I'm bringing a veggie tray, jalapeno popper dip n chips, and white chocolate and sprinkles coated popcorn.

DD is making melted snowman cookies we found on pinterest, cupcakes, some kind of green vegetable she hasn't decided on for the main meal and a salad.

DD's DBF's parents and family are coming too, I have no idea what they will bring.

Needless to say, it's going to be interesting!

We were talking here the other day about the Jalapeno Popper dip. I was looking through websites for appetizer recipes and saw this one so just thought I'd throw it out there too. I've never had either but they both sound soooooo good. Now if only we could make ourselves eat it with vegetables.

    Jalapeño Popper Dip
    12 21 11 Jalapeño Popper Dip | Annie's Eats

    Ingredients:

2 (8 oz.) packages cream cheese, softened
    1 cup mayonnaise
1 (4 oz.) can chopped green chiles, drained
1 (4 oz.) can diced jalapeño peppers, drained
½ cup shredded Mexican style cheese
    ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
    1 cup Panko breadcrumbs
    ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
    Cooking spray

    Directions:

Preheat the oven to 375˚ F. In a medium bowl, combine the cream cheese, mayonnaise, green chiles, jalapeños, and shredded cheeses. Mix thoroughly with a spoon or spatula until smooth and evenly combined. Spread the mixture into a baking dish (approximately 9 x 9-inches).

In a second bowl, combine the Panko and Parmesan and stir with a fork until combined. Sprinkle over the cream cheese mixture in the baking dish. Spray lightly with cooking spray. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the mixture is hot and the topping is golden. Serve warm with baguette slices, vegetables, etc. as desired.
