I'll Say "Happy Holidays" if I Want To

I am beyond tired of the Facebook postings about how saying Happy Holidays is taking Christ out of Christmas. I say "Happy Holidays" just because that is what I want to say. It covers the entire season from Thanksgiving to the New Year.

I am not an unchristian heathen, so please let me say what I want to say and LEAVE ME ALONE.

Myself I say Merry Christmas and Happy New year but its your right to say whatever you want to...

I think facebook is saying that for many places are saying that you have to say Happy Holidays now days to keep from hurtting someone feeling or making them mad.
Last your my sons school would not let them say Merry Christmas they were told to say Happy Holidays or nothing.

I say Merry Christmas for its Christmas that I want to be merry. I feel that saying Happy Holidays is something you would say to cover all the Hoildays in the year. Just as I chose to say Merry Christmas its your right to say Happy Holidays tho.

OP - I totally agree with you! I play it by ear depending on the person and situation - I say Happy Holidays sometimes and Merry Christmas sometimes. But I don't honestly put that much thought into it, I just say whatever and smile and I've never had anyone complain. A friend of mine recently commented that forcing everyone to say Merry Christmas is just as bad as complaining that people aren't allowed to say it. IMO everyone should say what they're comfortable with. I'm never offended by any well wishes - be it for a nice day, a happy holiday, or just "glad to see you" - LOL

And I totally agree with MoM also - it takes the fun out of the season when everyone is arguing about what to say.

I never knew it was this big of a deal. Then schools stopped having "Christmas Breaks" and started having "Winter Break"

I never really thought about it much either. I just like to say Merry Christmas and its a habit to me. I dont care what others celebrate either I celebrate Christmas so I just say Merry Christmas. I mean on harm to anyone I say it to,it jsut what I like to say and do say without even thinking much about it.

My Christmas cards this year say Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas. I chose them because of the cute snowman on the front though, not due to any desire to purposefully say one thing or the other.
