Default So, anyone planning thanksgiving yet?

I’m planning for thanksgiving already and I wanted to know if anyone else was planning for it?

Are you already couponing for it? Do you have a menu planned? Any idea for a firsttimer?

(I'm not going home for Thanksgiving, I'm staying at school and doing thanksgiving by myself, or maybe with a few friends.)

I'm looking for coupons too, but so far no luck for a lot of them.

I'm having to do all my stuff dairy free, so that's part of why I'm starting early.

The most festive thing I've seen out there is the crunchy fried onions for green bean casseroles.

Last year, we had a 30 person Thanksgiving at our house (we had just moved into our first new house in September). We were told we were off the hook for about the next 15 years. So it looks like the best dish right now for us to bring will be Green Bean Casserole. I will probably also bring cookies since we had a huge pie overage last year- and cookies are easier to baggie up or just take home.

I also still have canned cranberry sauce from last year (the kind that comes out shaped like the can). The can is nowhere near its expiration, so that's good, lol.

Thanksgiving is my designated holiday to host for the family. The menu is traditional and my kin doesn't like a lot of variation.

I struggle each year finding an appropriate activity for once everyone sits at the table. That practice of everyone telling something he or she is thankful for seems too forced and rote for most of our guests. (Besides, with close to 30 people it would take forever.)
In religious beliefs, our family ranges from two pastors to some who go to church only for weddings/funerals. One year I printed a simple table grace on place cards and asked everyone to read it together. Any ideas there?

We were just talking about this last night. We're not really sure what we're doing yet. It might be a big dinner with the three of us, my son and his family, my husband's brother and his wife, and whoever else ends up here. OR...if my son doesn't have his kids that day...and hubby's brother and his wife have other plans, then it'll just be the three of us. Kind of hard to plan ahead when I'm not sure how many people will be here.

If it's a big group, we'll do the traditional turkey dinner with all of the sides and several desserts. If it's just the three of us (or two of us, if the 15 year old makes other plans), it will be much more casual. Probably just munchies all day!

As for your Thanksgiving...if you can gather up a few friends, you'll enjoy the day a lot more. I spent a Thanksgiving alone, and it's depressing! Get together with your friends a week or so before the holiday, and assign each person to bring something. That way, it's not all on you...AND you get to enjoy other people's cooking too! Whatever you do...enjoy it!

My uncle just offered to deep fry a turkey for us at the new house. So I'm thinking a nice big family dinner in the wonderful big kitchen I will have.
I had sanity once upon a time I promise . It was just so long agoooo that I can't remember it.

If by planning you mean "ready to eat turkey", then yes, I am. I never do Thanksgiving at my house. We go to either my parents' or DH's aunt and uncle's, and we alternate every year. I think we were at my parents' last year, so we're at his family's this year.
