    CHAT ~Tell Me What's for Christmas Dinner? ~ 2010

I usually end up cooking a repeat of Thanksgiving Dinner but this year would like to change it up a little and was hoping for some ideas from others...

So, What's gonna be on your dinner table?

I'm making a leg of lamb to take to a friend's house. They are having ham but I'm allergic to pork so I offered to bring lamb. Before we got the invite to Christmas dinner, however my DH had requested cornish game hens. He prefers ham (and never gets it from me) and I prefer the lamb. So the cornish game hens will have to be for the next holiday.

Mom and MIL both usually have the same as Thanksgiving. Occasionally, MIL will do ham instead or in addition to turkey. I like ham; so we are having ham and hashbrown casserole for Christmas Eve dinner. Ham and cheesy potatoes just always goes together in my mind. I guess not for everyone, because I told my mom I picked up a ham and she immediately assumed we were having potato salad and baked beans with it...... not a picnic, Mom, Christmas Eve Dinner. LOL

Here's one for you. DHs family always has homemade noodles for holidays, my parents and their extended families always had dumplings. So...noodles, dumplings or something else??

Ok, I know this is the most totally out there, but DS has been away from home for a few months and he decided on the menu of the foods he misses the most so I'm going for it! He wants stuffing, green bean casserole, broccoli rice casserole....so far so good. Here's the kicker....he wants baby back ribs and spaghetti to go with it! I've added cheesecake and pumpkin bread for dessert and spicy chex mix for snacking. Can anyone top this weirdness?

By the way, just to show you how strange his tastes are, his favorite snack is funyons and jalapeno bean dip which of course I've got for him too!

Hubs' family always makes ravioli for Christmas. They make their sausage first, and it has fennel in it. Then the make the dough and put spinach and sausage in. Then they make the "gravy." We don't have very many traditions in our family but this is a great one the girls get to share with their 86 year old Papa.

We didn't get to do the traditional Thanksgiving dinner, since I had to work, and both of my kids had plans with other parents.

Since I'm off Christmas day, we're having a feast:

    Dinner:

    Turkey
Ham (hubby's cooking it on the grill)
    Mashed potatoes and gravy
    Stuffing (stovetop...I'm cheating!)
    Sweet Potatoes
    Green bean casserole
    Spinach and mushroom casserole
    Scalloped corn
    Cinnamon Apple Cranberry Sauce recipe
Carrots & celery sticks with garlic dill dip
    Dinner rolls

    Dessert (all homemade by me!):

    Snickerdoodles
    Peanut butter kisses
    Brownies with cream cheese filling
    Seven layer cookie bars
    Pumpkin bars
    Caramel corn

We usually have turkey at Thanksgiving and ham at Christmas but I have a few extra turkeys in the freezer so this year we're having both! All the usual fixin's to go with of course: deviled eggs, potato salad, baked beans, 7 layer salad (YUMMO!), sweet potato casserole and pineapple casserole. For dessert, I've already made a pumpkin roll and peanut butter candy.

MrsStunner here is the recipe for pineapple casserole. Some people think it's a bit strange, but I like it as a side for ham. I usually half the recipe as it makes a lot. I would give credit but I have no idea where it came from, my aunt gave it to me.

Here is a very simple, yummy Pumpkin roll.

There are going to be 26 of us here for Christmas Day dinner, so I decided just to do different homemade soups, and fix a ham for sandwiches. We are also having several different appetizers .

    Nachos
Yummy chicken dip that you eat with Kings Hawaiin Bread
    Cheese ball dip
    Venison jalepeno sausage and cheese

    Green Pepper Soup
    Spicy Vegetable Soup
    Veggie Cheese Soup
    Chilli

    Desserts will be
Turtle Nut Brownies(made with caramels and pecans)
    Pumpkin Bars,
Still debating on whether I am going to make pies or not

Not your traditional meal, I know, but we are going to have all 13 of our grandchildren together for the very first time.I want to spend my time visiting, not cooking. Everyone will be here except for our son who is serving in Afghanistan right now
Raising children(especially teens) is like being pecked to death by a chicken

In my defense, I will only bid human beings in the auction forum if it's a MM.
