My just turned 9 yo ds believes. My ds12 pretends to believe. I just don't see the harm. I tell them if you don't believe in Santa, then you don't get gifts from Santa. Not that you don't get gifts at all they just won't be from Santa. Three years ago on Christmas eve we watched The Polar Express, in the morning they received large jingle bell's on a velvet rope, that added a year or two of believing. I don't think anyone could convince my ds9 there's no Santa, lol, He enjoys Christmas so much, hes already asking if we can put up the tree. The world is so serious and over bearing a little Christmas magic makes for a great holiday.

I completely agree with the PP poster who talked about St. Nick. Just look at Larry Stewart Secret Santa - Larry Stewart Reveals

This man gave out over a million dollars at Christmas time one hundred dollar bill at a time. He would find someone down on their luck and just hand them money and walk away.

The "magic" of Christmas is alive and well today. Just look at all of the people here who go out of their way to donate not just at Christmas but all year. To me and to my kids the true Magic of Santa lies in the love, kindness and compassion people have for each other.

If he comes right out and asks you, I would probably say something like, "I believe in magic" since he already spoke of magic. My son is 8 in the 3rd grade and I have a feeling one of his classmates will spill the beans for him this year. At this moment though he still believes and I want to keep it that way as long as possible. I already know I'm not going to come right out and tell him there's no such thing if he asks.

How funny that this was posted and I just responded a little while ago. A few minutes ago my son said, "I've got to get working on my Christmas list because Christmas is less than 2 months away." He pulled out his Thomas The Tank catalog and got on the internet to look up things for his list. He said one train set was probably too much and he didn't want Santa to spend that much money because he wasn't sure if Santa's elves could make it at their shop. So sweet. I hope we can get another year out of this.

My son is 10 and I think he still wants to believe but may not. He said the other day, he can't wait for Eddie (elf of the shelf) to come and see us again this year. I am playing along and even if he doesn't believe, he acts like he does around me.

Sorry I haven't been back to read through this. Things have been busy here.

I think he still is a believer. This weekend we picked a few angels off the senior citizen tree at Walgreens. We do this every year. He says that he will be Santa for them because they are too old for the real Santa. I thought it was cute.

I will keep all of your suggestions in mind for when the day does come. I do think that we should get by at least another year with Santa. Thanks.

My DD is 15 and she still believes, nothing "special" about her except to me. I think your son nailed it with the "magic" answer.
