HELP Classroom Fall Party ~ 2010

Hey! I have been asked to be the room mother "mother in charge" for the fall party for my daughters kindergarten classroom---there is only a 10-15 dollar budget for the party! So whatever I go over I will have to pay for (if I want to include it in the party, you don't have to) I need some ideas. There are 20 kids in her room and I need an activity as well as a snack. This is the first time I have ever done this----so help me please :)

I see if anyone would want to help donate to the party (esp the snacks). Send a paper home that asks for cookies and juice boxes. If you can get some people to donate those...then you have the money to budget for the games.

Is this a halloween theme...or just fall in general?

They call it the "fall party"

I don't think she will let us send home any notes. Each child is suppose to give 3.00 per year to help with the parties.....not all children turn this in...and it is split between 3 parties.....

Well with the help of coupons you should be able to get juice boxes and a snack for pretty cheap!

For activities, what those leaf drawings/crayon rubbings?

If you want to do halloween, my sister made these ten years ago and I thought they were adorable, she took a clear glove (like a dr wears) and then put a candy corn in the tip (like a finger nail) and then put one of those spider rings on the ring finger and filled the glove with popcorn. it was adorable!

How about a touchy gross things - they reach in a cardboard box and touch suquishy stuff - jello, cooked noodles, warm water? for their little hands it would not take much.

Would you dress up and read a story? You could wear all brown and make a hat with tissue leaves and call yourself a tree. Ask a librarian for help on the book selection.

Man if it were not the thought of 15 5 years old every single day, I would love to be a kindergarten teacher!!

    ahhh I see..

we normally do juice box (like capri sun) and cookies. Are you allowed to make the cookies..or do they have to be store bought?

Oh and I really like the noodle suggestion...that is cool!

A lot of schools stay completely away from Halloween - hence the "fall" theme which is not bad since fall lasts longer than Halloween anyway.

You can draw a scarecrow, copy it onto paper and let each kid have one to color. I had a cute idea about number or picture bingo but then you wouldn't want to have a "winner" or "losers."

Try to keep it as simple as possible so there is less clean up - think about the "crumb" factor of whatever snack you're bringing and the color of drinks too - for stains. You'll find a lot of parents hit the door ASAP and don't lift a finger to help afterward so you might want to recruit a "clean up" crew in advance. You might also want to designate whom to give "leftovers" to so there's not any confusion at the end.

Man I wish I remembered the web page, but if you do a google search for Fall Art coloring pages or something around that you can get your activity right there. Or even how about playing duck, duck goose for an activity? They did that last year in my sons 4th grade class and they loved it.

We only do 2 parties here and we turn in $3. So every year I send in with him little goodie bags filled with candy, pencils erasers, etc.. just to help out.

I hope everything works out for you.

Farmer in the dell would be a good game to play if you have the room. Or london bridge is falling down, so many kids these days dont even know what those two games are. If you want to color go to nick.com they have pages that you can print off to color.

Kool aid and paper cups might be cheaper for you may already have that at your house. You can use the no color kind to aviod stains. If you can bake some big cookies or cupcakes it would be cheaper than buying them. Or if you have a Dollar Tree you can buy snack stuff there with the money you have.

Ask the teacher for an activity idea...most teachers have tons of activities.

    1. Play "Pass the Pumpkin" using a mini pumpkin. Play it like Hot Potato with music.
    2. Make caramel apples with a crockpot to melt the caramels. Activity+snack all in one.
    3. Play "Needle in the Haystack". Fill a kiddie pool with shredder paper and mix in a bag of cheap dollar store prizes like spider rings or cheapie lollipops.
    4. Pumpkin bowling - set up wooden blocks like bowling pins and use a mini pumpkin to bowl with.
    5. Apple stamping - cut an apple in half and use fall colored paint to stamp with.
    6. Fall headbands - use your school's Ellison machine (ask the teacher) to cut fall leaves out of construction paper. Have the kids glue these to a sentence strip (teacher should have these) for an instant hat.
    7. Get a bag of "fall mix" candy - the candy corn and little pumpkins. Do a patterning activity (corn, corn, pumpkin, corn, corn, pumpkin - you get the idea). The teacher will appreciate you incorporating a math skill. Have enough so each kid can eat the candy they use to pattern with. This works with M&Ms and Skittles as well.

My sister and I teach preschool and usually do all these activities plus a fall story as centers during our fall party. If you have enough parents to help, you can have each parent do one activity with a few kids and have them rotate around to each activity.

If you want to do a fun food activity, make sugar cookies, tint some frosting orange, and give both to the kids with popsicle sticks (to spread the frosting) and some candy corn. Tell them the cookies are pumpkins and they can decorate them with the candy corn. They will probably make jack o'lanterns with them, but oh well :).
