Halloween - Did I miss something? ~ 2010

Is this happening everywhere?
In previous years, by now, Halloween was at full tilt, ads, sales, etc. And if you didn't have your costume by Oct. 1, everyone was sold out.
This year....nothing.
Even SWM has not one single costume. They're not gone, they never got any.
And almost every store around here, the Halloween section went from a Full Section, to like one aisle.

Target is is still setting theirs, 3 aisles worth - but it doesn't seem like as much either. I know Michaels was, IMO, a little light on the Halloween decor this year so far - one aisle, although well stocked. I haven't been to Kohl's lately to see what they have, but they usually have their seasonal section, plus some housewares sections well stocked. I think there is a lot less merchandise out - prolly cause retails sales are down.

High unemployment is my guess. You can skip Halloween, but I doubt most parents will be able to get away with skipping Christmas.

I went to Carters over Labor Day weekend and they were already sold out of Halloween (in the sizes I needed) and they said they weren't getting any more. My Acme already has a huge seasonal section of Halloween, haven't really been anywhere else.

Everyone used face paint ect here last year so there was tons left over after halloween that they had to just about give away, so I guess they think it will be the same wya this year..

Yeah I felt the same way, checked out Walmart and Target like last week promising my son we'd look at the costumes and they still had gardening stuff?! I ended up just buying his costume on eBay last night.

I don't mind at all. The way the stores usually rush certain holidays, pretty soon they'll have Christmas stuff out before Halloween.

I was at Michael's and they had Christmas stuff out.

I think that they're cutting back on the amounts of holiday things so that they don't have as much to put on clearance after the date. Companies can't afford to take the loss any more than financially strapped consumers.

I've noticed this over the past year or two-- I used to be able to stock way up on clearanced holiday ziplocs and such, and they have been nonexistent where I have been.

Oh no, I better start looking for a costume for DD then? I usually get one from Big Lots a few weeks beforehand. I refuse to pay exorbitant prices for one online. Thanks for the heads up!
