QUESTION What do you think of this idea for preschool valentines ~ 2010

Here is what I am thinking this year....I have an 18month old and an almost 3 year old. I have brown paper lunch bags in multitude. I am going to have my kid's decorate the bags by coloring them, stamping them, stickering them, etc.

I am then going to add some of my stockpile items to the bag...in each bag I am thinking I will put a box of raisins, bag of fruit snacks, individually wrapped cookie (weight watchers), 1 Caprisun, and a sheet of stickers.

What i need help with is a "saying" I can put on the bag to tie it all together and not make it sound like I am cleaning out my pantry...

What do you ladies think....is this too over the top or do you think it is neat to do something a little over the top? Has anyone done this; if so how was it received? I don't want to be the "weird" Mom, but I thought it might be neat to give a little extra

I'm a preschool office manager, and I think that's a way better "treat bag" than the candy bags most parents send. You could say something to the effect of "A healthy snack is yummy to eat after you've had so many sweet treats". It would also be a great idea for Halloween as well.

I agree, I think that is awesome! Besides, I think a lot of families appreciate the time that goes into those kinds of gifts - I know we do!

The "weird mom" gives granolas bars @ Halloween. That would be me

Great, Great, Great! I live in a small rural town and I use to take special treat bags on certain Holidays and everyone loved them. Good choice of items too! Just a little healthy treat for some smart little minds.

There's nothing wrong with this for valentines day! I know my daughter would love it and actually the bold is what she'd probable say if she got a bag from you!! And I'm sure they'll have a ball decorating with stickers and stamping! LOL! If you keep this as tradition it will be something your kids will remember and smile when they're doing the same thing with their kids!!

I think it's a great bag and will be much appreciated after all the cookies and cupcakes and sugar filled candy!

Not weird at all - the kids will love it! One year I got full size yo-yos 90% off after Christmas so my DS gave out yo-yo's with heart stickers on them. Nothing wrong with being a little different.

Late in the conversation but not weird at all.

I used small Ziplocs I got super cheap and made labels with Pikachu holding a heart I found online and wrote Happy Valentine's Day From (My sons name) on them. I then put in two small plastic pinball games and a heart eraser ($.19 for a bag of 16 of each - 90% Target clearance last year) plus a Golden Grahams bar, a Kraft Handi Snack pack of crackers/cheese, and a Pokemon Valentine my almost 5 year old son wrote his name on.

I work full time and I am just not the mommy who makes cupcakes or baked goods for the kids -- I wish I was but my mom did not have the time when I was a kid either. I would like to think these were more appreciated.

For the teachers I found stuff in my stash from years ago . . . Small pots from Russ that said Be Mine ($.89 from a CVS clearance) with cork stoppers that I put Hershey's Kisses into with pretty tissue paper and for the director who is nice to us a heart shaped push pin board (Target - $1.49).

Next Sunday we will do our rounds for Target 90% off. Last year we went to 8 stores. At the end we stopped for gas and while waiting in line my son complained that his tummy hurt. My husband jumped out to check on him and he puked all over my husband. My brother in law now says our son has a 7 Target limit.

I went back to the BJ's where we got the gas about a month later and the gas attendant remembered me . . .

Hopefully this year will be a little calmer.

Me: OK well what do you have after a penny?
    USPS Employee: 2¢, 3¢, 4¢ and 5¢
Me: Fine. I will take the 5¢ ones.
