LWW's Baking Extravaganza

I am not a baker. I can't even make premade just pop them in the oven cookies or boxed cakes right, they always get too brown or burnt.

However, being away from my family in OH I really miss some of the goodies that everyone would make. So this year my mom sent me all the recipes and I'm making my cousins Buckeye and my moms Pagach. And I'm going to do a pumpkin pie and a chocolate pie. The pies I'm not too worried about, as I've made at least the pumpkin one before, and the chocolate is just pudding in a shell, lol.

I'm going to start on the Buckeyes a bit later.

I've already started the pagach. Pagach, for those that don't know, is a Slovakian cheese and potato bread. Very yummy.

Woke my mom up at 7am, and about 5 calls so far and the dough is still just rising, we've already had a few oops moments.

Let me say though, that when someone doesn't bake, TELL THEM the little things. Like letting yeast rise. >.<

Luckily the dough has been rising an hour now, so the few moments I had accidentally let it set there while trying to find the can of milk seemed to be enough.


Now, and I really really hate to put this out there, I really do cause this is going to make me look really bad. But when you say 'wrap the dough in a towel' ......maybe mention that the dough is to stay IN A BOWL!!! and not to be just thrown into a towel. I'm just saying. >.<

(PS - I'm not all that capable either with made completely from scratch stuff - When I was a teenager, my first attempt at a homemade chocolate cake... let's just say you could bounce it across the room)

I'm sure it will come out delish and you will be laughing later.... But, think, once you've succeeded, you will be able to do it again! Yummy!

Have fun baking.... I need to make my kiddos' requests of choc chip cookies and pumpkin cupcakes with pink frosting... LOL

(My dough rose too much in the bowls I had it in, and it would seem I didn't add quite enough flour to make it non sticky before. Oie)

OK, thanks for the good laugh and I know I have the same problems with things I have never made before. I hope all goes well without too much frustration. Don't give up, this will be a memory you will keep with you forever.

Last one didn't turn out too bad. Haven't taste tested any yet though, but besides the one that fell apart when flipping it (guess we know which one is not being served tomorrow hehe) I'm not completely displeased.

(Alot of people make pagach like an actual loaf of bread, but my family has always rolled it out. i tried the rolling, then stopped after the one fell part and just kinda did a mix of rolling and loafyness).

ROFL, you made my day , thank you. I do bake a lot, but we all started somewhere and everyone has had their share of oops moment. Hang in there , you will do fine.
