Default DH wants a paper Christmas Tree this year---what do you think?

I have always had a real, live Christmas tree...from my parents home to our home (DH & I)...my whole life. We have a 14 month old and a 2.5 year old and DH really wants to do a paper Christmas tree just this one year. He is talking a real size 2D green tree that we cut out of paper (not sure where to buy) and our 2 year old "helps" put paper ornaments, glitter, etc on it and then we tack it on the wall in the living room...putting only Santa's presents at the bottome Christmas Eve after the kids are alseep. Has anyone ever done one?

I keep thinking, it will be really fun to do. and it would get rid of the nightmare of keeping the kids from tearing down the tree...but what about the pictures from this year...they will be so fake looking:shrug7:

What are your thoughts? Anyone ever done it?

I think a paper tree would be destroyed in 2 days with little kids those ages. Of course, I think any tree is going to be a challenge this Christmas with your little kids.

honestly, that sounds awesome! I have a 4 year old, 3 year old, and 18 month old. Every year our decor gets broke and that would solve the problem. I also get so afraid because they wont leave the lights alone. Its also a fun activity. Pictures..... I say who cares! Its something you can look back on and have pictures making that tree. My kids would love this after all they would make it. Christmas is about togetherness and I find the idea awesome. Thanks so much. I think we are doing it.

Another plus is clean up will be a breeze no more hours of putting the tree away. Well at least for this year.

I think its a cute idea! You could get really creative with it too. This is also a really good idea for saving space for those who live in apartments or small houses.

Also another idea is you could drape lights back and forth on it to make it look more like a regular tree.

If my parents would have let my brother and me do that, I would've been thrilled! That sounds like fun, especially since you get to make all the "ornaments" to decorate the tree with. I loved making the paper chains and all the homemade ornaments. My mom still puts them up on our tree every year!

I guess another option would be a very small tree. My mom used to put up mini trees around the house. Actually, I remember one year we decorated a large [fake] house plant with lights and I thought that was neat. Where I grew up (Texas, along the gulf coast) people sometimes got creative and used a cactus. (I'm not saying a cactus is safe for your kiddos, just demonstrating that Christmas trees come in all shapes and sizes!)

I don't think the photos are important. In 10 years you'll look back and realize how fun it was, right?

I always put the tree in a playpen when my kids were that age.

I think it's a great idea!! I've seen it done with green felt for the tree, instead of paper, too. We've used a 3ft tree on a corner table for the past 5 years. But this is something I'd consider for this year. It would use up so much less space! And my grandkids would love creating it!

It reminds me of my mom telling me when she & my dad were first married they lived in an apartment so tiny that they could not fit any kind of tree in. so, they made a paper tree.
it's nothing but wonderful memories for my mom, and of how they got through those early years together.
i think the paper tree sounds great. especially if it helps your family and your little ones. you'll look back years from now & laugh how you had the paper tree and have great memories of your children and your young family.

have fun!!

A box to make it stronger is a great idea!

Thanks for all your thoughts ladies...DH really wants to because he thinks it will save our sanity this year and be fun. I think we will give it a try! I was the last hold out.
