If I had to sum up my Eid day in three words: it'll be Food ( with a capital F), family and friends.
The day began with a special breakfast, no plain old cereal or toast on Eid morning, we are talking Pan fried whole-wheat flour oozing with butter along with a lot of sweet treats. Then our family headed to the mosque for Eid prayers where we were offered platters of fresh sweet dates, nuts ( Almonds, Pecans, Cashews & Peanuts) and traditional sweets ( confectionery that rely heavily on sugar, milk and condensed milk, and is cooked by frying) This was followed by lunch at a local eatery which was serving special Eid buffet-think a meal with infinite number of courses.
The rest of the afternoon was spend dropping by at various friends and families' homes where you are expected to partake in whatever is served to you ( sweet treats AGAIN). Gifts were given and received, kids making out like bandits since traditionally the elders give cash to the young. Then, just at the minute you realize you are finally about to explode you head home.
My evening was spent replying to Eid greeting voice mails, e-mails, Face book messages. Quite a few of my friends have upload their Eid day pictures, so it was oohing and aahing at how cute their kids looked in their Eid finery or how pretty some have decorated their homes and amazement ( mixed with some sympathy) at the massive feast some cooked for hoards of their in-laws,.
Needless to add that today I am recovering from a massive hangover-caused by the giant amount of sugar I consumed yesterday. The rest of the Sept will be best spend living on a diet of water and stale bread.... to avoid passing out due to a massive coronary. I do want to see another Ramadan and celebrate more Eids- eating more sweets
