This is a super simple fruit salad that my husband's family had made for years for Christmas. Like many family favorites there is no real recipe and each person who makes it puts in different proportions, but I will try to create a recipe below. My FIL makes it by the bushelful each year. And our family has it for Christmas breakfast along with cinnamon rolls that my grandfather used to make.
Christmas Sunrise Citrus Salad
Serves 8
Mix the following in a bowl:
2 - grapefruits
4 - oranges (Florida juice are best)
4 - tangerines
4 - tangelos
Cut citrus fruit in half and cut out sections. Squeeze empty peels to get every drop of juice. Cover well--putting plastic wrap touching the fruit will help preserve more of the vitamin C. Chill overnight or a couple of hours.
4 - bananas sliced (add about 30 to 60 minutes before serving)
My hubby used to sprinkle sugar on his--we all eat it plain.
While preparing this there is a wonderful fragrance, though not like the aroma of something baking, it still smells like Christmas to me.
