And how are you doing it frugally?

I'm honestly hoping to get some ideas from this thread. I have everything I need to fry shrimp for DH, and I got that for $14 for 5 lbs of colossal shrimp. I have beer for the batter and corn meal so I think I have the breading taken care of. I can do the hush puppies with what I have on hand, and potatoes are cheap for fries.

But I'm completely stumped for a gift for him. He's the type of guy who just goes and buys whatever he wants; doesn't wait for a holiday to ask for anything. I've tried getting him stuff he didn't mention but I thought me might like (last year I got him a brand for grilling that is so cool! He monograms our steaks!) but I'm all out of ideas right now and most of the time my ideas are duds.

We love baseball in our family, and I was thinking I might score some Mobile Baybears tickets, but then I thought that might be lame -- what if it rains? and I know those will probably be pretty expensive.

I never know what to get DF for holiday or birthdays. But this past Christmas, he got me dog training classes and I got him tickets to see Trans-Sibeiran Orchestra. I really really liked the fact that we got each other "experience" gifts instead of STUFF. I have decided that from now on, I'm sticking with experience gifts. Memories mean more than some dvd or tshirt that he'll forget about. If baseball doesn't work out, I'd still try to think of some sort of experience gift that he will remember forever. I know DF still talks about how great TSO was, so that was my first winning gift I ever got him, lol.

I tried one experience thing a couple of years ago. He loves to golf so I got him lessons from a local golf pro. It took the man over a year to use the lessons, lol. Guess that didn't go over so well.

We just got around to using those dog training lessons. Last Wednesday was our first class.

Guys are very hard to buy for. I've been married almost 3 years now and I still haven't been able to get him something great as a suprise/gift. Even then we aren't doing anything for father's day since we are broke. Probably gonna be like last year and I'll just make him dinner and give him some freebie like a massage or do some chore he doesn't wanna do.

DH and I went shopping last week to get some stuff for the house, and I just made some mental notes of anything he commented on, touched, etc. I'm going to get him a '#1 Dad' Tshirt/hat combo from the kids, and a clock that looks like a car brake for his office.

Plus breakfast in bed and a day off to do whatever he wants.
