Store Closings
Just found this info & thought I would share even though it is a little late.
Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that if you tend to give gift cards around the holidays; you need to be careful. Stores that are planning to close after Christmas are still selling the cards through the holidays.
Below are some of the stores you need to be cautious about:
- Ann Taylor - 117 stores nationwide closing
- Bombay - closing remaining stores
- Cache - will close ALL stores
- Circuit City ( filed Chapter 11 )
- Dillard's - to close down some stores after January
- Disney - closing 98 stores & more to close after January
- Eddie Bauer - to close 27 stores
- Ethan Allen - closing 12 stores
- Footlocker closing 140 stores & more to close after January
- GAP - closing 85 stores
- Home Depot - closing 15 stores
- JC Penney - closing down a number of stores after January
- J. Jill- closing all stores ( owned by Talbots )
- K B Toys - Closing 356 stores
- Lane Bryant, Fashion Bug & Catherines - to close 150 stores nationwide
- Linens N Things - closing all stores
- Lowes - to close down a number of stores after January
- Macys - to close 9 stores after January
- Office Depot cutting 112 stores, 2,200 jobs - Kansas City Star
- Pacific Sunwear - also owned by Talbots
- Pep Boys - closing 133 stores
- Sharper Images - closing down all stores
- Sprint/Nextel closing 133 stores
- Talbots closing down specialty stores
- Zales - closing down 85 stores & 105 after January

Give Cash, it may be considered tacky by some, but unless the government closes down, you don't have to worry about having a piece of plastic that is worth nothing. When Linens N Things started their closing sale in our area they posted a sign that they would no longer accept gift cards or LNT credit cards. Wow, they already had the money from the gift card purchase and they would not accept the gift card! I was there last week buying towels for my college bound daughter and found out that "A liquidator" had taken over for the court ordered liquidation sale, so now it makes sense that they do not accept the gift cards, LNT was no longer involved once the sale started. BEWARE!
