Default Giant: What is the coupon policy at your store?

Giant (Easton, MD):
Double coupons up to and including .50; no limit on number of identical coupons that will double, but they sometimes limit number of sale items purchased to 6

We tried really hard to babyproof our house, but somehow, a couple of them still got in.

Doubles up to and including .50. Never been limited in amounts unless sale ad specifically stated it.

In No. VA., they double up to 50 cents, but limit doubles for the same item to four. After four, the fifth (and subsequent) coupon will be at face value.

Does anyone know what the policy regarding overage is? Specifically, if the face value of a coupon (w/o doubling) is greater than the sales price

1) Will Giant allow the coupon to be used at all?

2) If so, does the coupon need to be adjusted to the sales price or can you get the full value (assuming you have other items -- as I know Giant would not give me cash on a transaction -- except for those notorious catalina :-)

Just wanted to share my recent experience at Giant. They had toothpaste on the clearance rack marked $1.24. I picked up two because I had two $1 off coupons. At checkout, the cashier would not let me use the coupons. She said that you can't use coupons on clearance items. I asked if this was a new policy because I had done this in the past. She said no--cashiers were just supposed to keep track. I bought the toothpaste anyway because it seemed like too much trouble to unpack and remove.

When I got home, I emailed Giant's CS and explained. A few days later, I had a message from Giant stating that this was not there policy and the coupons should have been accepted. She would make sure my store knows the policy. She said she was mailing a $2 coupon--which I received yesterday. Just thought this info might be helpful to other Gianters!! Katie

Also, it is Giant's Policy to accept internet printed coupons with the limitations of no completely free items (BOGO is OK) and none over $5.00 face value. I had a cashier who told me they weren't allowed to take them after I'd been using them for years. I e-mailed CS and they sent me back a letter that they do take internet coupons. I printed it and took it to the manager!!

My DW went to Giant today with a 2$ Internet printable for Metadent...

She said to the cashier that she wasn't sure if they accepted Internet Printable coupons and then the cashier said she wasn't sure and had the manager on duty come over. My DW explained the entire situation to him again and he sat there just staring and the coupon and said, 'ummm, ahhh, yea we umm accept internet printed coupons but only up to 1$'

My wife's response was (God bless her heart), 'It sounds like you just made up that policy right now on the spot.' When she told me this I just cringed... To that he said 'umm, well [while staring at the coupon] that is the company (yes he said Company, not store) policy, but... we'll let you use it this time'

ROFL...

This is going to be a call to the store to get things clarified...

From their own website's FAQ (giantfood.com):

Due to an increased number of fraudulent Internet coupons in the market place, Giant no longer accepts Internet coupons for free items. At this time we are still accepting Internet coupons for cents off. This change has only occurred recently. We realize that many customers receive these coupons over the Internet and believe they are legitimate. Unfortunately, in many instances they are not. Also, the manufacturers have told us that they won't reimburse retailers for them if we do accept them. Here is a link to a website that explains this in more detail.
