Getting the Most out of Giant Food Store Cards & Gas/Fuel Points
To simplify Giant Food (or other store cards) for gas deals and other "deals"--do the following--
1. Let the cashier ring in all your items/purchases.
2. If you have Competitor Coupons for the cashier to scan--Giant Food allows Competitor Coupons (not sure about Giant PA/Martin's or Stop & Shop which are "sister" stores to Giant Food--see appropriate store policies for clarification--I think Giant Food is the only store in Metro DC/MD and N VA areas that allows Competitor Coupons), scan the Competitor Coupon AFTER your items/purchases have been scanned by the cashier.
3. Then after the Competitor Coupons (if applicable) are scanned, present your Manufacturer Coupons (MQs) which will double up to $.99. Then present any MQ(s) over $.99 (i.e. $1 or more) that are NOT to be doubled up to $.99.
4. Lastly, give the cashier your Giant Food shoppers card (or other store card for your particular store).
Yes, your MQ(s) will double up to $.99 correctly and the fuel/gas points will occur and be correct on your Giant Food (or other store card). Do the above-mentioned method even if you shop at the Giant Food "sister" stores and do not have Competitor Coupons honored if applicable.
This way if you want MORE credit toward your gas/fuel points, you get FULL credit for your purchases BEFORE the MQ(s) are deducted and/or Competitor Coupons (if applicable). Just don't forget to scan your Giant Food (or store cards) LAST to obtain ALL the discounts/sale prices that you are entitled to.
What happens (I have tried both methods) is when you scan your Giant Food (or other store cards) FIRST, your gas/fuel points are based on the total with the sale discounts and MQ(s) deducted. In other words, scanning your card LAST, you get more gas/fuel points based on the subtotal BEFORE ALL MQ(s) and/or discounts are deducted. Just remember to give the cashier the card at the END of the transaction for all applicable discounts and/or fuel/gas points.
Also, for those of you in the Metro DC/MD and N VA areas that shop at Giant Food, your Competitor Coupons are deducted at the register. The CSM will return the "cash refunds" to the cashier's cash drawer later so they will "balance out" their cash drawers fine. I asked if the cashier would be "shorted" when my Competitor Coupons are deducted; and the store managers told me no. The CSM gives the cashiers cash to replenish their drawers to account for the Competitor Coupons. Your receipts will show the Competitor Coupons deducted AFTER the subtotal if you follow the above method with scanning your cards LAST. Either way your Competitor Coupons will show up on your receipts as a deduction of your subtotals and/or totals.
Also, the Giant Food register code (don't know for "sister" stores) for Competitor Coupons is "6000". I believe--not sure--HT's code for Competitor Coupons which is "1867" and other stores' codes that honors Competitor Coupons memorized too. Even Walmart's codes.
If your Giant Food stores does NOT deduct the Competitor Coupons at the registers; and asks for you to get refunded at CS Desk by Giant Food gift card or refunds your cash (per the store manager's discretion--yes, they are allowed to do this and I already checked with the Consumer Department at Giant Food), this is perfectly okay. Just be sure to use the Competitor Coupons appropriately.
Hope this helps--enjoy!
