FYI Giant Now Accepts Competitor Coupons!

    Hi,

Today after church, we went shopping in N VA to the Super Giant. I noticed that on their entrance/exit doors to the store that there were signs posted stating--"Giant Now Accepts Competitor Coupons." No other details--anyone seen or have details on this? If I find more details, I will post info.

I guess they are competing with HT now. Who know if this is for all Giant/Super G stores or just in N VA?

    Thanks,

    Foodie

It used to be that Giant only accepted Safeway coupons, but I have since learned in the past 3-4 months that they accept any competitor coupons. I am also in N Va and I've used Safeway, HT, Bottom Dollar coupons at my local Giant (and vice versa). Sometimes it is a ymmv situation. Some people give me a hard time and others don't. The ones that tend to be tougher insist that the coupon has to be a direct LOCAL competitor of that Giant, i.e. if there's not a Bottom Dollar within 3-4 miles, they may not accept their coupon. HT sometimes has given me a hard time for the same reason.

I have used Safeway and Superthrift (IGA) coupons at Giant with no problem.

I asked about a Bottom Dollar coupon a couple of months ago and my Giant said no.

They will also accept the $X off $X coupons of competitors.

    Hi,

Since we are expecting 18 to 24 inches of snow/ice this weekend here in Metro DC/MD and N Va areas, we went out shopping earlier tonight to eat, pick-up wood pellets for our pellet stove at Tractor Supply, and to shop for groceries. Since hubby came home around lunch today, I picked up kiddos early from school, and off we went. Yes, prepared with snow shovels, etc..

So here's the deal on the Competitor Coupons. When I told the cashier that I had the Competitor Q(s) upfront after the Manufacturer Coupons, he asked the store manager to assist him. All went well with coupons.

Remember any food-related store coupons should be accepted--YMMV. Think "outside the box" for coupons! Just ask the managers at the CS desk.

    Hope this helps--

Instead of me waiting at the Service Desk for a refund, you can also have the coupons scanned and overriden at the registers. Unlike at HT where the Competitor Q code is 1867 for overriding the coupons, the manager told the cashier since there was a line forming and I told the people behind me that I would be awhile, to CASH OUT the Competitor Coupons. Later the manager would give the cashier cash for us register drawer. I don't know the code for Giant Competitor Coupons or if this what is done normally. Just check and ask the cashier and managers.

So the breakdown was $150+ BEFORE ALL COUPONS (COMPETITOR COUPONS AND MANUFACTURER COUPONS). After all discounts, out-of-pocket was $3 and some change!:hectic1:

    The coupons were as follows--

2 Honeybaked Ham coupons $7/off Bone-IN ham. I used these for the Smithfield hams before coupons were $8--so I paid $2 for 2 hams! Hams are on sale for $1.19/per lb..

    $5/$25 Rite-Aid and Walgreen coupons
$/off coupons for Harvey's (Part of Food Lion, I believe.) I explained to the manager they were part of Bloom/Food Lion, which he knew. I was upfront about the coupons--he accepted out-of-state store coupons. Boy, was I surprised--it may be YMMV.
    $/off World Market coupons
    CVS coupons
    Family Dollar coupons
    Dollar General coupons
    Shoppers Food Warehouse
    Whole Foods Market
    Mambo Sprouts coupons
    Any booklet coupons--YMMV
    Giant Eagle
    Martin's Grocery
    BJ's Club
    Costco
    Target
Any Store Competitor Coupons that are CURRENT. If unsure, tell managers at the Customer Service Desk. Should approve them.

    Hope this helps--

WOW!!!! I had never thought about using non-food store coupons. Didn't think they would accept them. What kind of coupons from Costco did you use--the ones from those booklets they send to members? Are they accepting the printable coupons, or only ones from the paper? In my experience at Giant, the well trained cashiers know of the "competitor" coupon code override at the register. They don't need to get a manager involved.

HI Re: Giant Now Accepts Competitor Coupons!

You are welcome. Just remember the coupons that I previously mentioned are left up to store managers. YMMV. Just ask before you check out.

    Merry Christmas!!
