The only thing I can think of is that the cashiers hate scanning coupons (in other words doing more work) But my GE Customer Service is totally rude about coupons & rainchecks as are managers. The self check outs all freeze if you use more than one of the same coupon. They're independently owned so they will only double 2 like coupons, only accept 4 like coupons, and only accept "veri-fi" printable coupons. Plus they do not permit multiple transactions which means if I want to use more than 2 coupons that double I actually have to walk out then go back in and find another cashier because if I go to the same one they will not check me out!!! I am seriously considering driving 40 minutes to the next GE just to avoid all of their nonsense.

I went last night to GE to get my free toothpaste ( their always out of the toothbrushes when they have this sale) and my coupons rang up .75 off the multiplied .59 for each tube. which makes sense since each tube sale price was $1.34 so for 4 tubes of colgate i paid $0.23 which was the tax

since that darn stupid show, all cashiers ( well, every 9 out of 10 ) seem to have an issue....theres a few i like and since i know them from shopping there for years ive even given advice and coupons outside of work for items i dont use so they are pretty cool with me. my favorite would be a kinda crazy lady whom i give all my cat coupons too since we only have a dog..lol..and i admit to cashier profiling!!!! LOL!!!! no offense, but I REFUSE to go to an elderly cashier! they always treat me like im trash and trouble for spending so little!!!

I don't understand how they can not allow you to do multiple transactions at least... And calling corporate accomplishes nothing because they're "independently owned"? I didn't even know they had independently owned GE...

It started WAY before that show. I dealt with cashiers that thought they owned the store. There was one store that was closest to me and the best time for me to shop there was early in the morning and only 3 cashiers there, all with the same attitude With any coupon problem, I would ask for the manager and 99% of the time I was right.
That just made them more mad. I reported them to corporate. That changed their attitude somewhat. They were more pleaseant and instead of telling me it won't work, would ask for the manager to help out. Then I took quite a few "free" coupons, those coupons I received for emailing the companies. I had about $30 worth. Their curiousity got the best of them. They had to ask how I got those "GOOD COUPONS"
    I simply replied, "I complain"
    They never bothered me again.

The cashier rang up my toothbrushes first which were $1.49 then the toothpaste at $1.34. The coupons all rang up $.75 then $.74 so I got overage on the toothpaste. I wonder if it because the toothbrush (the more expensive one) was rung up first?

WOW. We must be really lucky. They always work with us. Even when there's an issue with the coupons, they always apologize and help us. We shop at 4 different Giant Eagles around southwest of Pittsburgh. I only have issues with Shop'n'save and Walmart with coupons. They're the ones that could care less and are downright rude.

With retail establishments, the customer is a guest.

As a guest, you must be on your best behavior.

They can ban you from the store.

They can honor or not honor your coupons.

    +

Independently owned stores tend to be more restrictive.

I 'discovered' one when they said when issuing a raincheck their limit is four and not ten.

That Giant Eagle store is located in Parma, OH near the intersection of Snow Road and Broadview Road.

I guess I never considered shopping at a store and doing two or three back-to-back transactions as "bad" behavior. What's the difference between checking out 3 different customers in a row, and checking me out 3 times in a row? I don't have any MORE items than I would in 1 transaction. At most, you're adding maybe 20 seconds to each transaction to pay.

Thank goodness my store is very understanding of my couponing and appreciative of my business. Well, like with anything, it's up to the individual to decide who is lucky enough to get their business. (This is exactly why I do not shop at Walmart anymore.)
