Thumbs Down Why does Giant Eagle print out catalinas for products they don't carry

I thought I had scored yesterday when the fools in front of me left their catalinas in the printer in the self checkout line. 3 coupons, each for a free carton of smart balance enhanced milk. I checked 4 giant eagles around here and not one carried this. Why print out a catalina for a product you don't carry?

This is where Catalina Marketing is coming from:

"Catalina can help manufacturer and retail brands deliver unprecedented performance and healthier outcomes.

Only Catalina sees the evolving purchase histories of more than 75 percent of U.S. shoppers and 130 million health consumers, with an in-store network of 50,000 food, drug and mass merchant locations worldwide. ..."

At the checkout, the Catalina printer can capture your attention.

Relying on your store's loyalty card, the Catalina printer can print out coupons that they think you might be interested.

Some times, the coupon printed out is just like a 'cold call' (out-of-the-blue).

Limiting coupons to items just sold at Giant Eagle would be too restrictive.

I think I get what you are saying. Thanks. I guess I'll have to use the coupon at Wal Mart, since I believe they redeem catalinas that have "Manufacture's Coupon" at the top, regardless of the store logo on the side.

They should sell it, they carry it at mine. The enhanced milk is just any of their current line-up of milk products that they have enhanced it with something. The nutraceutical world loves to use the word enhanced, sound better than fortified.

Enhanced Milks: Varieties include an excellent source of DHA/EPA Omega-3s, Antioxidant Vitamin E and plant sterols

Double-check the WM coupon policy first. I think I read something about restrictions on "free" coupons.

Giant Eagle sells it because I've been buying it all month! There was a 75/1 any Smart Balance milk in the 11/20SS, then I got 20 for $1 on ebay. The Smart Balance milk has been on an unadvertised sale at Giant Eagle all month until 12/28 for $3--so the coupon makes them $1.50. Trying to remember the colors of the cartons. I get the lactose free and know for sure that's the purple carton. The Omega 3, I think is a blue,...or maybe red???? The expiration date is nice and long,...the ones I've been buying this month don't actually expire until Feb 2012! Which reminds me,...I've been thinking of starting a separate thread where we could put monthly 'unadvertised sales with the end date' plus match up coupons for the unadvertised sales we find. This thread would be for unadvertised sales that are taking place in ALL Giant Eagles, not a clearance sale you might find on a clearance shelf, or buggy at your individual local G.Eagle. Don't know if anyone would be interested in such a thread.... Seems lately, G.Eagle has been having better 'unadvertised' sales than their advertised sales!

I'd be interested rbpgh! Esp if there was a wiki w/ coupon match-ups! I don't have time (as I'm sure most of us don't!) to scour every aisle every single week! It'd be nice to have all that in one spot.

I finally found it at the Giant Eagle on W 5th Ave in Columbus. I didn't check that one originally, the ones closer to campus and downtown didn't carry it. Scored 2 smart balance milks, 10 Uncle Ben's Ready Rice (Long Grain and Wild), a can of campbell's soup, no yolk noodles,a bottle of vinegar and 2 progresso chicken broths, all for $7.49 after coupons. Score !!!!

I'm still kind of peeved by the fact that the store where I retrieved the coupons didn't carry that product.

Yikes, I'll have to check that for future reference.
