Remember tomorrow is the last day for double gift card points.
There can be a gazillion reasons why a retailer will pull out / bail.
A head cashier at Giant Eagle told me the reason why McDonald's pulled their gift card from Giant Eagle was something about the volume being sold.

Right this minute the northeastern OH McDonald's have a promotion running:
Purchase a $10.00 McDonald's Arch card (their gift card) and receive a booklet chock full of ten coupons.
So, maybe McDonald's wants more control on how their gift cards are being sold.
Selling them themselves and not at other retailer outlets.

Keep in mind that there is something in retailing call a 'slotting fees.'
In essence, it is the retailer telling the manufacturer or the gift card just issuer how much Giant Eagle is charging them for the privilege of selling their product or gift card at Giant Eagle.
Many may ask / wonder how a grocery store can many make money ... well, slotting fees are a great income generator for a retailer.

Slotting fee
"A slotting fee, slotting allowance, pay-to-stay, or fixed trade spending is a fee charged to produce companies or manufacturers by supermarket distributors (retailers) in order to have their product placed on their shelves. ..."
The fee varies greatly depending on the product, manufacturer, and market conditions.
For a new product, the initial slotting fee may be approximately $25,000 per item in a regional cluster of stores, but may be as high as $250,000 in high-demand markets ..."

I know this promo ended, but the answer to this question will come in handy for the future. If I were to purchase (2) $25 gift cards in the same transaction, will I still get the 10cent/20 cent bonus fuel perks? I always purchase $50 cards because I am paranoid I will lose out if I mix and match (2) $25 cards.
Yes it adds a 25.00 GC bonus on your card, you can buy them one at a time also. So if you bought 1 today, your receipt shows you have a $25.00 bonus, and say a week later you buy another, it then adds the bonus perks and removes the GC bonus. If you buy 2 - $25 cards, it is just like buying 1 - $50 card.
you can get what ever denomontion the cards come in and when the total goes over $50 you get the bonus 10 cents. So if they come in $10..get 5 and it will equal 50.
GE also lets you split it up into different transactions...get 25 one day and 25 another day. The day your total goes over the 50 is when you get the bonus FP
Thank you both! I never knew I could break up the transactions.
I was in the Giant Eagle today in Wexford. I think I was in Wexford, its the newer one on 19. Anyhow, we were looking at the cards figuring out which ones we needed and we must have been asked 12 times if we needed help but 6 different employees. The sales of the these cards must be very important to their bottom line.
