    QUESTION Fuel Perks limitation?

My friend told me that Giant Eagle is banning the use of gas cans when filling up your tank. Has anyone heard anything about this? I'm hoping he heard some invalid info... but his fiancée is a shift manager at Giant Eagle.

I can't believe all the rumors. Even more than that the horrible sales that they are having. Possibly GE is in trouble finacially? The new ad is full of store brands and little else.

It may not be a rumor ...

    The issue can be safety.

It is a fact that grocery stores make more money on store band items but a week full of store brands might be just that!

I know they don't allow two cars beside each other-- that's definitely a safety issue with running engines and all. And it's illegal to put gasoline (or other flammable substance) in anything other than approved containers. But I don't know how they could ban approved gas cans. I would say good bye to GetGo if they did.

Well, I hate to be on the other side of this discussion - I could care less if they d/c fuel perks due to the fact I can not take advantage of the max. fill-up of 30 gallons and refuse to drive with 20 gals. of gas in any sort of containers in my car. There seems to be more and more specials in the ad's that are tied to fuel perks and it's not as good of a deal for most consumers because of the amount of unused gallons left "on the table". Well, truth be told I recently banned myself from using several gas cans at Get Go to try to benefit from being able to get the max 30gallons of fuel perks. After the informative discussion on HCW a couple weeks ago about safety issues of fueling 2 cars (also against G.E. policy too) from 1 pump AND the even greater safety of filling, transporting, and storing several full 5 gallon gas cans to try to get the max 30 gallon benefit from your fuel perks when you own a small 10gallon tank car, I banned myself from filling/using more than 1 of the 5 gallon gas cans I own when I fueled up last week. Never felt comfortable (safety wise) filling/storing extra full gas cans but being frugal wanted to get the full benefit of the fuel perks I earned. Had $1.50 in fuel perks to use last week, my tank was on empty and even filling my tank and one 5 gallon gas can (which people have to do anyway for the lawnmower, etc) I still barely got 15 gallons of gas. It's like I lost out because didn't use another 15 gallons of fuel perks I still had--or in $ wise, lost out on 15x$1.50=$22.50 of fuel perk benefits unused/ lost on that one transaction. I dunno', with winter coming up and thinking of always having (3) full 5 gallon gas cans in my closed garage with my car, plus thinking of the mess I've made on my driveway trying to cyphon gas from the cans to my tank when needed, I went this last time with just using the 1 extra gas can. Grrr.....to think of it now, ...hmnnn,...it's like I threw away $22.50! Oh, the agony of some decisions
.....Where's the new Giant Eagle ad! I've been refreshing the G.E. site and this site way too many times today. I'm getting restless--and therefore, thinking way tooooooooooooo much! Need that new ad!

So, what happens if you do a lot of landscaping? We always bring our cans to fill up.

I can safely assure you that Giant Eagle does not appear to be in financial trouble, if they were they would not have recently become a huge Ohio state athletic sponsor. They are a privately owned company that has successfully been in business for a long time. They have not gotten to where they are without being business savy and I think there are way too many rumors flying around.
