FYI COUPON POLICY CHANGES - Effective 10/6/11

I used the powerade 75/2 coupon tonight. As most of you know it only doubles to 1.00. So I went to CS to see if they would give me the remaining amounts. The manager stated that it doesn't matter how many the coupon is for that it will only double up to the amount of 1 item. So, for example, coupons for .60/3 Green giant would only double to a dollar etc. He says this is their policy and that it has always been. He looked at me like I was trying to steal from them. I don't see anywhere in the policy listed here that this is so. Does anyone know of this or is he unaware?

I know for a fact, using the 60/3 Green Giant coupon as the example, that during Giant Eagle's March frozen food sales, I used plenty of the 60/3 Green Giant coupons on green giant boxed veggies sale $1 each and the coupons always doubled to $1.20 for every 3 bought. What the manager is stating almost sounds like the thing Target got in trouble for... Example, if a Target customer used a 3/2 coupon on 2 items that sold for $2 each, Target was only deducting $2 total ( the price of 1 item) off the purchase of 2 items instead of the full $3 coupon value. Target got in trouble because they were then sending the coupon to the manufacturer and being reimbursed for the full $3 while shorting the customer by $1.

My GE only accepts a max of 5 Q's and doubles applicable Q's up to $1 on those 5. Weis on the other hand doubles a max of 4 Q's up to $1.50 but will give you face value on as many items you have, that is considered reasonable at the Mgr's discretion..

I believe your manager was just giving he best logical explanation, but he is incorrect. It could possibly be how the coupon is coded versus worded. ie if the coupon is coded for 1 but worded for 2, it will only double to the price of one. If you catch it at the register you can usually point it out to the cashier who can over-ride it. Or you can go to CS to have the difference refunded. Depending on the manager/store, it can be a YMMV situation.

My GE has a big sign on the front of the building that says they double coupons up to 0.99. I know they don't provide overage but I'd never heard that it was the cost of 1 item on a coupon for 2 or 3 or however many items. He did reimburse me that night, but plainly told me he never would again. That's what I'm asking, is this their policy and I missed it and just got lucky with other coupons that did truly double. Or is he misinformed. He is not the main manager, and it is a corporate owned GE. Any one know?

Sorry just saw PP for some reason didn't display when I was first reading responses. Thank you.

It IS the way they are coded. They are coded to come off .75/1 even though the coupon states otherwise. I just dealt with this today. The cashier looked at me like I was dumb but the manager took me up to CS and just punched in -1.50 for each one. It's nice having a store that knows that I take my couponing seriously and the managers never give me problems.

I've used at least 40 of the .75/2 Powerade q's @ GE and they doubled to $1.50.
These are the q's that expire 9/30.
Before, I also used the .75/2 Powerade q's that expired 8/30 but......they would only double to $1.00. So it would have to be something with the coding as to why some are working and some are not.

    Default ALERT! Possible Coupon changes!

Just had advertised on KDKA to watch their news tonight, at 5pm, regarding cracking down on coupon use and coupon changes at some local stores. In case Giant Eagle is one of those stores, might want to tune in. (Please, please, please don't take away the 'doubling' of coupons!
