Maybe she didnt KNOW about couponing??? I didnt just a year ago until someone educated me, and it wasnt cable tv (which is too expensive for us so Ive never watched "that show")
I think more people should make an effort to educate people they know that are down on their luck... a friend of mine gets food stamps... hes not well educated and is legally blind and has heart problems and COPD so just going out and getting a job isnt really going to happen easily for him... he got $240+ a month and was telling me how hard it was to make it stretch. I showed him HOW and he was floored and now gives to others and educates others.
    It takes a village y'know???

I educate as many people as I can... it helps LONG TERM... not just short term like throwing money or food at food banks.

(p.s. I'm forever confused about the "people on g'ment assistance living the high life... I work in the hill district, and I can tell you ... unless theres drug dealing involved, they arent living the high life... and unless youre doing drugs... it isnt your money )

I hope meat (beef chicken pork) doesn't go up more, since they all feed grain. It's been bad lately.

Meat will just keep increasing in price. There are far too many factors in the production: corn, feed, water, fuel, packaging.

I'm a manager at a frozen gourmet food store and the cost of everything has gone up so much. For example, Item A cost $5.00 to produce last year, but now costs $9.00 to produce this year. My company is actually doing a price increase next month to help regain some profit lost with the increasing cost. The regular price of all beef products is going up $3-$10. We've put off the price increase for 3 years, and financially, we can't keep it off any longer.

Morning Star Farms (vegetarian) was under $3/box several years ago when I went vegetarian. Today Wal-Mart sells a box for $3.82 while GE is well over $4! Thankfully Target has them on sale frequently for $3 plus TQs (in addition to my MQs). I hate when people tell me being vegetarian is expensive. Meat is expensive as well (unless you get the very low quality type), but we don't have that many options right now.

I could not believe how expensive a 24 pack of soda pop is! I remember 8 years ago Tops would run a mega sale of 4 24 packs for $10. As I got older, I was used to $5 per case. Now sales rarely dip that low; it's more like 2 for $11.

Valu-time chocolate syrup was $1.09 now it is $1.59. That price raise was in all within a year.

More of what I have noticed is the packaging sizes. 2 years ago there was, I think 20 tortillas in the El Paso pack, now there is 16, for the same price. *I could be wrong on the exact numbers, just know there was a decrease in quantity* And also the packaging used to be resealable, not any more. Coke 24 packs at wm you could get them for $5, now its a 20 pack for $6.
I have seen more and more companies reducing amounts and removing conveniences, yet maintaining the same prices. Its slight of hand. Your accustomed to paying $x and when you see it is still $x, you grab it. Because the oop $ is a main driver in sales and purchasing. Just like how stuff is marked $4.99 so you think its significantly cheaper than another retailer selling it at $5.00

Just remembered,...I don't know if this is an increased price or always been this price because I never was able to find so never bought the item before. I was at 7 fields Giant Eagle today and finally found the Chex Muddy Buddies in the snack, not cereal, section. I printed a 75/1 ip couple weeks ago and it was about to expire. They were $3.99 a bag at Giant Eagle!!! Even with my 75/1 doubled there was no way I was going to pay that much for them. Think last week I saw the Chex snacks in the Walgreen's ad on sale for like 99cents! (Though these Chex Muddy Buddies did look very appetizing coated in chocolate,... with a powdered sugar coating...)

All commodity prices are being speculated right now. They are betting there will be more serious economic problems ahead. Corn is important because it is a raw material for both food and industrial use. If you go to CNBC.com just look at the pricing on corn . Corn has doubled over the last two years AND look at the trading volume on futures. It's crazy.

The week Pup-peroni was BOGO they were $3.09 at my store. I got a RC on the 14th since they carry low stock and today they finally had 20 bags at $3.29!!! 20 frickin cents in 10 days! This is really getting ridiculous, I don't know how we are going to survive if this keeps up- skyrocketing prices, less and less "good" coupons, fewer catalina deals, and now policy changes?!? And to top it all off I bet there won't a Social Security increase for yet another year(for the 3rd in a row)-how are the elderly surviving? I just don't get where this country is headed :( >>>>stepping off my soap box now<<<<
