I was in Giant Eagle today, Sept 4, 2011 and was looking at the gift card rack and notice a sign posted that Giant Eagle will stop selling Best Buy gift cards at the close of business on Sept. 7, 2011.
First they dropped McDonald's and now Best Buy who will be next? This makes the Fuel Perks program a waste of time as the overall general higher prices at Giant Eagle overshadow an discounts or savings. Time to take my shopping elsewhere.

They've also added Lowes and Amazon recently. They negotiate with the companies on the price for the gift cards. I am sure Best Buy made the decision, not Giant Eagle.
I'll continue buying gift cards from Giant Eagle as long as the fuel perks program exists.
Agree that it would have been Best Buy's decision to stop. From what I have heard, it is VERY expensive for these companies to have GE handle their cards and some must figure that it is not worth it.
My daughter is a manager for a relatively small restaurant chain (Eat N Park) and they quit some time ago. She said that it was costing them big bucks and they felt that their customers would stick with them even if they didn't have the gift cards. And, that proved to be true.
yeah, I heard this last week or so (last day of the double FP deal the cashier was warning a lof of us)
Maybe they want to carry the HHGREG cards? I'm sure they are getting another retailer similar to Best Buy but who?
I dunno about this. There are still a ton of other gift cards to choose from. We don't eat out much, so I'm not big on those cards but I do get them for when we do go out.
Home Depot and Lowes and some of the other cards are still great deals. Kohls, JCPenny's and Kmart/ Sears....you will still be able to maximize savings there. If you got the double FP and saved them to use around now....tons of end of the year sales. JC Penny had a $10 off of !0 or a $15 off or 25 coupon and a lot of sales going on. I got shoes for my littlest one for $2!
As of now...I think the FP deals are still a great thing. Its all in what you need/ want.
I maximize my savings even more. My church/ school sales GE gift cards. We get a % on the dollar amount we buy for tuition credit and the church makes a % too. (you can donate the tuition credit of the church gets the full amount) I then use those cards to buy cards at GE. The church sales a few other places too...JCPenny, Kohls (you can use them to pay your CC balance) and a few other places like Eat N Park and Panerra, Bruggers.
I don't shop at Best Buy much as it is. I got a TV from there about a month ago because there was a price mistake on their website and I got it for a steal. I also got gift cards from GE to get fuel perks that made me pull the trigger.
The only thing that would encourage me to shop there is if I was getting an additional discount through Giant Eagle's fuel perks program. Amazon and other online retailers have MUCH cheaper prices.
I wish there was a Frys electronics in NE Ohio. They don't gouge their customers.
Not sure if this will help anyone or not but I have not seen or heard anything about Best Buy being discontinued in Columbus.
