In order to prevent me (the customer) from being "paid" to buy items, they (the managers) actually cause the store a $16 loss.
I just don't know what to say about this. I still had a RC for the BOGO AirWicks and since the coupon expired that day I decided to grab them. So we all realize the AirWicks are free after coupon. First off, the cashier didn't know how to ring up a BOGO raincheck. Ok fair enough, she didn't know whether to ring up 2 @ $7.99 with 2 for free or 4 @ $3.99. Of course the answer is 4 @ $3.99 which another cashier she consulted with told her.
She gives me the total and I hand her the coupons. Uh oh! The coupon is a penny more than the item! What to do? She tells me I can't use the coupon bc it is more than the item's value. I tell her I have done this every other time GE has had this sale with no issues. She decides to call a manager. So manager comes over (he has a badge which reads Team Leader) and agrees with the cashier! What?! I again explain that I have done this many times before and never had a problem. So Team Leader calls over
another manager. The new manager says I can't use the coupons bc I can't use a coupon on a free item! I then have to explain that "BOGO" at GE means "half price" and I can use 2 coupons on a BOGO sale. She says I can't use them bc GE doesn't
pay people to take items out of the store (which is hilarious because I'm thinking of the Colgate). Her reasoning is I would be getting
paid $4 on a free item. She says if I used all the coupons she would have to open the register and give me money back. I say "No you wouldn't bc I'd still have to pay the tax." She also said if the coupons were for $1 then I could use all of them.
Ok so now I'm super-confused. I can't use the coupons bc they are more than the value of the item and also bc some of the items are free but um if the coupons were only $1 then I could use them all? WTF? She keeps telling me I can only use 2 of my coupons bc I can't use a coupon on a free item. She likes to emphasize this by pointing to one AirWick and telling me "This one is $7.99", then pointing to another AirWick and saying "This one is
freeeee." But earlier in our conversation she did acknowledge that BOGO means half-off. I'm giving these two the crazy look and I know they were thinking that
I just didn't get it.
So these 2 managers put their heads together and come up with a brilliant solution. I say "Fine as long as I'm only paying the tax." Response: "Oh you will." This is what they did. Rang up 4 AirWicks @ $3.99 then scanned 2 of my $4 coupons. Then
voided 2 of the AirWicks bc they were
freeeee!

OMG!! What? Instead of a "Buy One Get One Free" sale I got a "Buy One at Half Price Get One Free" sale! Are you kidding me? Instead of paying $1.04 in tax I only paid 52c in tax! They don't even realize what they did! And they are lookin' at me like I'm the idiot. What kind of sense did that make? Let's ring up four items then pretend you didn't buy them so we void off two? Not only did they
give $8 in merchandise away but they cheated the store $8 in coupons bc they refused to accept a coupon on a freeeee item!

Whatever!
So remember, BOGO items are half price at GE which is the same as free and you can't use coupons on free items unless the coupons are $1 except if the half price free item's value is less than the coupon's value in which case you cannot be paid to take items out of the store so we will simply allow you to use the coupons anyway but void off the items so we can pretend the transaction never happened in the first place!
