So, I've had this experience before, but never had it dealt with in the correct manner.
The ever confusing DND coupon. We all know that most have the policy to let DND coupons double and not stop it....well try explaining that to a cashier when you look like a crazy woman with all these kids "trying to get stuff for free".
I've had issues with this cashier before. She inspects every coupon and reads every word and tries to catch you doing something wrong. (she was the only one without a line and I thought all of my cps would pass her inspection) I had a raincheck for the Scotts tissue and had everything in order on the belt. Should have been easy, right? I did have 16 cereals each with a cp and some of the 75 cent IP Honey Nuts.
After she mentioned to me that they wont double, I explained the policy and the fact that every other time they double and should. "But the coupon says DND" After getting no where with her, I just asked her to void off the cereals and give me the coupons back and I will go to another cashier (But they will be cheating if they take those, LOL)

"Well...it is only 75 cents, are you sure?"

ME: Srsly, ONLY 75 cents? Add up the cps you don't double and I could have a few boxes of cereal for that. I can't afford just lose money..look around at my 5kids. DUH.

The person coming over asked about the void and said...NOPE. The customer is right. That has always been our policy!!!!!!

Way to stick to your guns! Can you imagine trying to explain to Miss Coupon Police the difference between the prefix "5" or "9" on a coupon? That would make her head spin around!

It never ceases to amaze me how cashiers become the gatekeepers and don't even know the combination to the lock

I probably would have responded, to the comment of it only being 75 cents, "I was always taught to mind the pennies and the dollars take care of themselves, think about that for a moment."

I can get snippy if I have to, but I've learned to give a genuine smile when I do, it disarms so many

Just happened to me in Medina - front end supervisor came by and agreed with what I said about it being corporate policy. Cashier then had to fix the coupons that she stopped from doubling.

The coupons marked Do Not Double will automatically double UNLESS a cashier manually enters the coupon, which is what appears some cashiers think their job is

The coupons with the prefix "9" will not double automatically in most computerized checkouts, so if you see a "9" as the first number in the bar coded area of the coupon, it probably won't double without the cashier manually overriding that and letting it double.

If your store policy is to double coupons make sure you watch as they scan coupons and any with "9" will not, simply say "Oh, that coupon didn't double" - no need to explain the prefix number variance, it will only confuse most of the cashiers

If I have any coupons with "9" on them, they go last so I can be totally focused on when they scan and call it to their attention.

Some of the insert as well as some printables are showing up with the "9" prefix now Used to be mostly found on blinkies in some stores.

In the past I have only had a problem with the Dannon coupons doubling. when it is for buying 6 containers of yogurt and they only allow doubling up to the price of the product - so for some reason it was coded to the price of 1 container. (not the 6 that I purchased) I pointed that out to the Customer Service and they gave me the difference.
