QUESTION Deli question, about closing time

Ok, for the last two months I've done some of my shopping later in the evening after class. I've gotten to GE around 8:45 only to find the deli with lights out and everyone bugging out of the department. I thought that the deli was to be opened until 9pm. Am I missing something?

Tonight I got there around 8:40 and there were a few people in front of me getting lunch meat and cheeses.

The gal behind the counter kept saying "the slicer is down (meaning being cleaned)" and really discouraged anyone from wanting meat cut. Now the meats I got happen to already been cut and ready to go so no problem but what if I had wanted something they didn't keep cut and ready to go?

I know they want to go but gees not everyone can get there really early to get their meat done.

So do anyone know what GE's rules on the deli are????? anyone know or dealt with this in the past. This way I'm ready for the next time.

I will say that I was ready to cause a stink if need be.

I would check w/ the store manager or customer service - just ask what time the deli is open until - you could call too. If they say 9pm and you get their at 8:45, I would not feel bad about asking for fresh cut meat. If they fuss - ask them to page a manager. I'm sure a manager would not be happy about you being refused to make a purchase!

I think that they should still cut things for you. I used to work in Deli departments when I was in college and I would still use the slicer close to closing time. I might not have been thrilled but I would do it. Of course the stores I worked in then were not 24 hrs and would be closing at that 9 - 10pm anyways,

I insist that they slice the meat for me. I refuse to buy meat that's been sitting in the deli case already sliced for many reasons - color changes from the lights, it dries out, too thick, etc. (I had never seen deli's do this until I moved here - in Philly, everything was sliced to order).

I can be a real biotch about my deli meat - several people got fired at SNS over the years because of their attitude/refusal to cut my meat!

I agree so much, hate when they try to give me the stuff already sliced. Its sits out in the opening with no cover and dries out so quickly. The only time I cave and let them give me the sliced stuff is when shop n save has those 2 day deli sales and are selling a ton of stuff and the line is a mile long. The turnover is pretty quick on the pre sliced meat and I feel bad for the 20 people in line.

I never thought about it sitting in the case.

I normally purchase our lunchmeat at IGA which is a much smaller store and it is cut to order, but because of classes I've been purchasing the lunchmeat at GE.

That, my friend, is the funniest thing I've heard all day.
