The best mystery shoppers are the ones that are detail orientated, remembering everything about their shopping experience.

Since they will be asked to recall it at a later time (when filling out a report and answering specific questions).

About 100 years ago, while living in the great state of GA, I was a mystery shopper for Captain Ds (similar to Long John Silvers).

My job was to order a meal, once a week, and report on the good, the bad, and the ugly about my dining experience du jour.

At first I will filling out paper forms that were mailed in.

They graduated to doing things online.

I was reimbursed two free meals per mystery shopping shop (I would save my receipts and then submit them).

Sponsors of mystery shoppings are looking for people that are:

    • responsible
    • mature
    • dependable
    • articulate
    • perceptive
    • detail orientated

I did a pharmacy shop the other day. Very easy! They should be pretty specific about what you need to ask/do..usually you can read the report you have to turn in before hand.

I've done it a few times before. Depending on the shop, it can be quite difficult. Full shops require you to visit every department, interact w/ an employee in each one, remember their names/description/their answer to your question/etc. If you prepare right, it isn't too bad, but you are not supposed to give any indication you are a MS'r so you can't just whip out a pad and paper when the employee leaves because LP can still see you on the cameras.

Some of the Q's I asked are really simple, everyday ?s that most folks would ask - like how fresh are your clams (I hate visiting the seafood counter! lol) or at the flower dept I'll ask if they have a flower in a certain color. At the bakery I'll ask what kind of icing to they have. At produce I'll ask where the papayas/mangos/whatever are.

I stopped doing it though because DS #3 isn't very cooperative for a shop like that and I wouldn't be able to remember everything w/ him in a shop like that!

The ones I was doing would pay $25 GC's for the shop though, so still not a bad deal if you figure it may take and hour to do...

I did do a pharmacy one before (non Rx) and it was pretty easy - although it only paid $10 GC. (it was a little whiles back) I did feel somewhat silly asking a question I knew the answer to though! lol

I never did a mystery shop at GE but, for a while there, some of the mean cashiers were being nice to me (one of the other cashiers told me they thought I was a mystery shopper LOL)

I've done this since October and it is time consuming for the grocery shops. I quit trying to do my couponing during these shops because it would take me forever. I was just informed that I am on hold from doing more for a few months because the "client" recognized my reports as "similar". They didn't really explain what that meant. I assumed it was because I would use the same questions (but at different GE locations) because it was easier for me to remember without writing and it kept me from forgetting departments by being overwhelmed by concentrating on questions. I was extremely detailed and wrote in clear sentences for my reports, so I don't know what else they would have a problem with. The only other reason I could think of is because I did so many, they recognized the way I wrote (using the same descriptors like pleasant, cheerful, etc.) But honestly, how can you write a three sentence description on EVERY interaction without using the same words on different reports? Especially when you have to describe an interaction that took all of 30 seconds because the employee gave you a one word answer? The requirements never said I had to ask multiple follow up questions to give me more to go on, nor did they say to be careful not to let my reports be recognizable as being from the same person.

Can you tell I'm still miffed? I spent a lot of time on those reports (a grocery takes an hour to complete) and a lot of time at the stores, and after several months they decide it's not good enough. Oh well.

If you ever worked at Giant Eagle or worked for a company that did demo's etc for them you can't mystery shop there.
