Re: Please clarify shelf vs sale price The reason we look at shelf price is because we can reach that magic dollar amount buying less products and still get the catalina. Sometimes if you go by the sale price you could lose out on an extra catalina by $1 or $2 also. I'll provide some examples here.
Swiss Miss Shelf is $1.69 so I divide $10/$1.69=5.92 so I know if I'm only buying Swiss Miss I need 6 instead of 10 to get the $3 Catalina. Therefore only spending $6 instead of $10.
Okay let's now buy it by the sale price and see how close we are to another catalina had we known it went by shelf.
10 Swiss Miss $10 oop, but shelf is $16.90 So I still only get one cat, but if I would have added just two Swiss Miss even if I don't have more coupons then I'm spending $12 OOP and getting $6 back in Catalinas instead of spending $10 OOP and getting back $3 in catalinas. Going by sale price in this scenario you end up paying $7/10, but if you buy those two extra you are paying $6/12. You save $.20/box calculating by shelf price.
So when I'm in the store and I'm buying several items that qualify for the OYNO I add up all the shelf prices to see how close or far away I am from the next $10 increment.
This is a little more work then just saying okay I buy 6 Swiss Miss for every $10 and 4 Orville for every $10. The other method is still great when going by shelf, but when you take it a step further you can buy more and save more.
So for example I want two sets of both:
6 SM=10.14*2=20.28
4 OR= 12.16*2=24.32
Total =$44.60 so by shelf I can add $5.40 more and get another $3 or I can just go over by the $4 and get 4 cats instead of 5 cats. Or my other option is to buy two less popcorn and spend less oop, but still get the 4 cats.
12 Swiss Miss
6 Popcorn
Total (Shelf) $41.42 get $12 back
Please feel free to ask me more questions if you need.
Don't hesitate to do the easier shelf vs sale scenarios if you don't care to do the extra math. Every sale you will find the one deal scenarios already figured out for you: like it takes 6 Swiss Miss to get one cat, it takes 4 Orville to one cat, it takes so many of this product to get one cat. Make a note of how many of each you need and breathe easy and if and when an unexpected cat comes out you'll be doing the happy dance. ;)
